Pisa
Pisa ( , or ) is a city and ''comune'' in Tuscany, central Italy, straddling the Arno just before it empties into the Ligurian Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Pisa. Although Pisa is known worldwide for its leaning tower, the city contains more than twenty other historic churches, several medieval palaces, and bridges across the Arno. Much of the city's architecture was financed from its history as one of the Italian maritime republics. Pisano is a small town (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin and about north of Novara. Pisano borders the following municipalities: Armeno, Colazza, Meina, and Nebbiuno. Geography and climate The municipality of Pisano is located at 396 m of altitude, on the side of the Alto Vergante hill. The territory has many woods, meadows and small rivers. At the foot of the hill, there are farmhouses with greenhouses. The climate, heavily influenced by Lake Maggiore, is characterised by warm winters and fresh summers. Autumn and Spring are typically rainy. Pisanello (c. 1380/1395c. 1450/1455), born Antonio di Puccio Pisano or Antonio di Puccio da Cereto, also erroneously called Vittore Pisano by Giorgio Vasari, was one of the most distinguished painters of the early Italian Renaissance and Quattrocento. He was acclaimed by poets such as Guarino da Verona and praised by humanists of his time, who compared him to such illustrious names as Cimabue, Phidias and Praxiteles. Pisanello is known for his resplendent frescoes in large murals, elegant portraits, small easel pictures, and many brilliant drawings such as those in the Codex Vallardi (Louvre). He is the most important commemorative portrait medallist in the first half of the 15th century, and he can claim to have originated this important genre. He was employed by the Doge of Venice, the Pope in the Vatican and the courts of Verona, Ferrara, Mantua, Milan, Rimini, and by the King of Naples.
