Sophie McBurnie (born 14 March 1999), known professionally as Piri (stylised in lowercase), is an English musician and social media personality. She is a member of Piri & Tommy and Loud LDN, and along with venbee and PinkPantheress, has been described as a leader of the 2020s drum and bass revival. Born in Rochdale, McBurnie met Tommy Villiers of Porij and See Thru Hands after matching with him on Tinder, finding his band on Twitter, and messaging him on Instagram, in that order. He produced her first single, the 12 March 2021 disco song "It's a Match", and then her 4 June 2021 liquid drum and bass song " Soft Spot"; after the song went viral on TikTok and Spotify, EMI signed them, re-released "Soft Spot" on 13 September 2021 as Piri & Tommy Villiers, and released their joint jungle track " Beachin" on 29 January 2022 and their speed garage song "Words" on 22 April 2022. Scala (club)
Scala is a former cinema turned nightclub and live music venue in Pentonville Road, London, England, near King's Cross railway station. History The Scala was originally built as a cinema to the designs of H Courtney Constantine, but construction was interrupted by the First World War and it spent some time being used to manufacture aircraft parts, and as a labour exchange for demobilised troops before opening in 1920 as the King's Cross Cinema. The cinema changed hands and names several times through its life and also changed focus, ranging from mainstream to art-house to adult film over 70 years, as well as spending a short time as a primatarium. Released on 17 February 2023 on Polydor Records, the song is about Piri having cowgirl sex with Villiers, and received broadly positive critical reception. Background On 11 January 2023, '' Clash'' reported that Piri and Tommy Villiers had split up, but remained friends, would release previously recorded music, and planned to work together in the future. UK Garage
UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house, but also incorporates elements from dance-pop, R&B, and jungle. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals, and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular " 2-step" rhythms. Matthew James Firth Coleman, better known by his stage name MJ Cole, is an English garage DJ, record producer and remixer. Career Born in London, England, in his youth, Cole was classically trained on the oboe and piano, and won scholarships to both the Royal College of Music Junior Department and City of London School. Having graduated from City University, Cole began working at the drum and bass label SOUR, as a tape operator and sound engineer to the likes of Freq Nasty and Ed Rush.
