Pio Tuia
Pio Iosefo Tuia (born 1943) has been , Heads of Government of Tokelau, head of government of Tokelau, six times. The position of ulu rotates annually between the three (one for each of the three atolls), who are elected for terms lasting three years. Tuia served as ''ulu'' for the sixth time in February 2011. He was also the faipule of Nukunonu and a member of the Council for the Ongoing Government of Tokelau. It was under Tuia's leadership that Tokelau became, in November 2011, a founding member of the Polynesian Leaders Group, a regional grouping intended to cooperate on a variety of issues including culture and language, education, responses to climate change, and trade and investment. Kuresa Nasau is a Tokelauan politician who has served as Heads of Government of Tokelau, head of government ( tkl, Ulu o Tokelau) five times and as of Atafu. He lost his seat in the 2011 election, but was re-elected in 2014. He lost his seat again in the 2017 Tokelauan general election, 2017 election. Polynesian Leaders Group
The Polynesian Leaders Group (PLG) is an international governmental cooperation group bringing together eight independent or self-governing countries or territories in Polynesia. The idea of a Polynesian regional grouping had been discussed for several years, notably in response to the Melanesian Spearhead Group, a regional grouping for countries in Melanesia. In September 2011, Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi initiated a meeting with the leaders of Tonga, Tuvalu, the Cook Islands and Niue on the margins of the Pacific Islands Forum summit in Auckland. These initial talks led to a second meeting in Apia which, on 17 November, led to a memorandum of understanding formally establishing the Polynesian Leaders Group (PLG). The Group does not have a fixed Secretariat at present, despite initial suggestions that one would be established in Apia. The New Zealand Order of Merit is an order of merit in the New Zealand royal honours system. The Council for the Ongoing Government of Tokelau is the executive body in Tokelau. It serves as the governing organization for Tokelau when the General Fono is not in session. The council has six members, consisting of the ''faipule'' (leader) and ''pulenuku'' (village mayor) of each of the three atolls, Fakaofo, Nukunonu, and Atafu. Foua Toloa (died 23 June 2015) was a Tokelauan politician who served as the Head of the Government of Tokelau, or ''Ulu'', from 21 February 2009, to 21 February 2010. He was a member of the Council for the Ongoing Government of Tokelau, and was a ''faipule'' on Fakaofo. As the office of Ulu rotates on an annual basis, Toloa resumed office on 21 February 2011. Nukunonu is the largest atoll within Tokelau, a dependency of New Zealand, in the south Pacific Ocean.
