Pinocchio (Boesmans)
''Pinocchio'' is a 2017 French-language opera by Philippe Boesmans to a libretto by , based on the 1883 novel ''The Adventures of Pinocchio'' by Carlo Collodi. The opera was commissioned by the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France and premiered there in July 2017. Philippe Boesmans
Philippe Boesmans (17 May 1936 – 10 April 2022) was a Belgian pianist, composer and academic teacher. He studied to be a pianist at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, and was self-taught as a composer, influenced by the Liège Group of Henri Pousseur, André Souris, and Célestin Deliège, and by attending the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. He worked for the Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF) from 1961, as a producer from 1971. Boesman became primarily recognised for his operas, with works written for the Royal Opera House La Monnaie in Brussels as composer in residence since 1985. Four operas were written in collaboration with Luc Bondy who adapted plays for him, Schnitzler's ''La Ronde'', Shakespeare's ''The Winter's Tale'', Strindberg's ''Miss Julie'' and ''Iwona, księżniczka Burgunda'' by Witold Gombrowicz, and who directed the world premieres of the operas. The Adventures Of Pinocchio
''The Adventures of Pinocchio'' ( ; it, Le avventure di Pinocchio ; commonly shortened to ''Pinocchio'') is a children's fantasy novel by Italian author Carlo Collodi. It is about the mischievous adventures of an animated marionette named Pinocchio and his father, a poor woodcarver named Geppetto. It was originally published in a serial form as ''The Story of a Puppet'' ( it, La storia di un burattino) in the ''Giornale per i bambini'', one of the earliest Italian weekly magazines for children, starting from 7 July 1881. The story stopped after nearly 4 months and 8 episodes at Chapter 15, but by popular demand from readers, the episodes were resumed on 16 February 1882. Carlo Collodi
Carlo Lorenzini (24 November 1826 – 26 October 1890), better known by the pen name Carlo Collodi (), was an Italian author, humourist, and journalist, widely known for his fairy tale novel ''The Adventures of Pinocchio''. Early life Collodi was born in Florence on 24 November 1826. His mother, Angiolina Orzali Lorenzini, was a seamstress from Collodi, the town from which he later took the pen name, and his father, Domenico Lorenzini, was a cook. Both parents worked for the ' Ginori Lisci. Carlo was the eldest child in the family and he had ten siblings but seven died at a young age. He spent most of his childhood in the town of Collodi where his mother was born. He lived there with his maternal grandmother. The Royal Theatre of La Monnaie (french: Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, italic=no, ; nl, Koninklijke Muntschouwburg, italic=no; both translating as the "Royal Theatre of the Mint") is an opera house in central Brussels, Belgium. Chloé Briot
Chloé Briot (born 18 November 1987) is a French operatic soprano. Life Briot was born in Mayenne of parent teachers. She started playing percussion at the age of 4, then started playing the flute and took dance lessons. At the age of 14, the singing teacher at the city's conservatory decided to accept her into her class even though she was too young for the age requirement. She then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from 2006 onwards, which she left afterwards, judging the atmosphere "too academic". She then went on to study at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, of which she was a laureate in 2014. In 2018, she was nominated in the "Lyric Artist" category in the Victoires de la musique classique. In August 2020, she announced that she had filed a complaint for sexual assault. Stéphane Degout (born 9 June 1975 in Bourg-en-Bresse) is a contemporary French baritone. He grew up in Saint-Jean-de-Niost (Ain) and has been living in Lyon since 1995. Biography Trained at the lycée Saint-Exupéry in Lyon, the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon in the class of Margreet Honig, then within the troupe of the opéra national de Lyon, Degout began his career in the role of Papageno in ''The Magic Flute'', within the framework of the Académie européenne de musique of the Aix-en-Provence Festival in July 1998. Patrick Davin (16 February 1962 – 9 September 2020) was a Belgian orchestra conductor. Biography Davin began studying violin at the Académie de Huy, then at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, where he took courses in violin, piano, harmonics, and fugue. He continued his education at the Conservatoire de Toulon. Davin was a pupil of René Defossez, Pierre Boulez, and Peter Eötvös. He helped many contemporary composers create their works, such as Philippe Boesmans, Henri Pousseur, Bruno Mantovani, Jean-Louis Agobet, Marco Stroppa, and Vinko Globokar. He served as musical and artistic director of the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse from 2013 to 2020. In July 2020, he became director of the music department of the Royal Conservatory of Liège.
