Pine Mountain is a town in Harris and Meriwether counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,304, up from 1,141 at the 2000 census. The Harris County portion of Pine Mountain is part of the Columbus, GA- AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the small portion that extends into Meriwether County is part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs- Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town began in 1882 when the railroad spread to Pine Mountain from Columbus, and until 1958, the community was known as "Chipley". The name was changed to "Pine Mountain" due to the existence of Callaway Gardens. The Pine Mountain Range is a long ridge in Meriwether County, Georgia, Harris County, Georgia, and Talbot County, Georgia. State Route 354 (SR 354) is a , arc-shaped state highway located entirely within Harris County in the west-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It starts out in a north-northeasterly direction and curves to a westerly direction. This highway was built in the early 1960s, on the same alignment as it travels today.
