Pilar Muñoz
Pilar Muñoz Ruiz (March 18, 1911 - October 1, 1980) was a Spanish stage and film actress. Daughter of actor Alfonso Muñoz and sister of actress Mimí Muñoz, she began acting with Margarita Xirgu in 1925. In 1927 she appeared in ''La princesa Bebé'' and 1931 in ''Vidas cruzadas'', both with Jacinto Benavente and next to Xirgú and her father. Three years later came one of their biggest hits, ''Ni al amor ni al mar, del mismo autor'', in 1934 at the Festival de Mérida with Medea and Electra. Premiering soon after was ''Yerma'' (1934) - in which she played María. During the Spanish Civil War, Xirgú accompanied her on a tour of the Americas, premiering in Buenos Aires with ''La casa de Bernarda Alba''. She did not return to Spain until 1947. In 1950 she starred in ''En la ardiente oscuridad'', alongside José María Rodero and Adolfo Marsillach, under director Luis Escobar. Margarita Xirgu
Margarita Xirgu Subirá (18 June 1888, Molins de Rei, Barcelona, Spain – 25 April 1969, Montevideo, Uruguay), also Margarida Xirgu, was a Spanish stage actress, who was greatly popular throughout her country and Latin America. A friend of the poet Federico García Lorca, she was forced into exile during Francisco Franco's dictatorship of Spain, but continued her work in America. Notable plays in which she appeared include '' Como tú me Deseas'', ''La casa de Bernarda Alba'', and '' Mariana Pineda''. An opera, ''Ainadamar'', by the composer Osvaldo Golijov and playwright David Henry Hwang, based on Xirgu's life and her association with Lorca, was premiered in 2003. A recording of the work released in 2006 on the Deutsche Grammophon label (Catalog #642902) won the 2007 Grammy awards for Best Classical Contemporary Composition and Best Opera Recording. Ricardo López Aranda (20 December 1934 – 25 November 1996) was a Spanish playwright, born in Santander in 1934. In 1941 his family home was destroyed by the Santander fire. In 1958 he received the National University Theater Prize for his playNunca amanecerá and published a version of Oedipus (also titledLa Esfinge sin Secreto). In 1960, his workCerca de las estrellas received the National Calderón de la Barca Theater prize and in 1961 the Aguilar prize.
