Pilar Bayona Piano Competition
The Pilar Bayona Piano Competition was a piano competition held in Zaragoza in memory of pianist Pilar Bayona (1897-1979). It was dissolved in 2004 and converted into a series of grants for Aragonese musicians. Johan Schmidt (born 5 October 1964) is a Belgian pianist. He won the Maria Callas Competition in Athens, and was prized at the Queen Elisabeth (1987, 4th prize plus Audience prize), Tchaikovsky (1990, 3rd prize - ex-aequo with Kevin Kenner and Anton Mordasov) and Van Cliburn Harvey Lavan "Van" Cliburn Jr. (; July 12, 1934February 27, 2013) was an American pianist who, at the age of 23, achieved worldwide recognition when he won the inaugural International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958 during the Cold W ... Oleg Marshev
Oleg Marshev (russian: Олег Маршев, born 1961) is a Soviet and Russian pianist, born in Baku ( Azerbaijani SSR, USSR) and now a resident of Italy. Biography Oleg was born in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, and studied at the Moscow Conservatory, graduating in 1988 with a Performance Doctorate and winning the Pilar Bayona International Piano Competition in Zaragoza. In 1990, Marshev won the AMSA Piano Competition in Cincinnati and settled in Italy in 1991. In 1991, Marshev held his New York debut at Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Center. Oleg Marshev's first recording project was the complete original works for solo piano by Prokofiev (5 CDs) for Danacord Records. He has since recorded over 30 CDs for the same label, featuring works by Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Rubinstein, Rachmaninov and others. Claudio Martínez Mehner (born in Bremen, 1970) is a Spanish piano soloist and pedagogue. Biography Martinez-Mehner studied at Madrid Conservatory, the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, the Peabody Institute, the Moscow Conservatory, the International Piano Foundation "Theo Lieven" and the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He was a finalist at the 1990 Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition (Spain), to which he would return as a member of the jury in 2018; in 1992 he won the first prize at the Pilar Bayona Competition. Dror Biran (born 1977) is an Israeli pianist. He is a graduate from the University of Tel Aviv's Rubin Music Academy and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he earned his doctorate in studies with Paul Schenly and Daniel Shapiro. Biran was prized at the 1995 Mikolajus Ciurlionis Competition (2nd prize - ex-aequo with Evgeny Samoilov) and the Cleveland Competition (1997, 4th prize). Petras ( el, Πετράς) is the archaeological site of an ancient Minoan town on northeastern Crete. Geography Petras is just east of the modern Cretan town, Siteia. The site is situated on top of a small plateau and overlooks the sea north of Crete. Archaeology Metaxia Tsipopoulou began excavations at Petras in 1985. Kirill Gerstein (russian: Кирилл Герштейн) (born 23 October 1979) is a Russian-American concert pianist. He is the sixth recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award. Born in the former Soviet Union, Gerstein is an American citizen based in Berlin. Between 2007-2017, he led piano classes at the Stuttgart Musik Hochschule. In 2018, he took up the post of Professor of Piano at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin in addition to the Kronberg Academy’s Sir András Schiff Performance Programme for Young Artists. Piano Competitions
The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). It is played using a keyboard, which is a row of keys (small levers) that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both hands to cause the hammers to strike the strings.
