''For the painter Bonifazio de' Pitati, see Bonifazio Veronese.'' Pietro Pitati (in Latin, Petrus Pitatus) (?-fl. ca. 1550) was an Italian astronomer and mathematician. Bernardino Baldi, in his ''Cronica de matematici'' (1707) calls Pitati a noble Verona, Veronese who was trained in mathematics by a Order of Saint Benedict, Benedictine friar named Innocentio da Novara. It is known that he was the author of several astronomical works and almanacs. His ''Paschales atque nouiluniorum mensurni canones. De varia paschalis solemnitatis obseruatione...De Hebraica anni quantitate...Calendarium nouum cum noua aurei numeri positione, ortu quoque, & occasu stellarum fixarum'' (Venice, March 1537) is one of many sixteenth century attempts to reform the calendar, and establish, among other things, the correct day of Easter. Bonifacio Veronese, birth name: Bonifacio de' PitatiAlso known as Bonifazio Veneziano (1487 – 19 October 1553) was an Italian Renaissance painter who was active in the Venetian Republic. Pitatus (crater)
Pitatus is an ancient Lunar craters, lunar impact crater located at the southern edge of Mare Nubium. It was named after Italian astronomer Pietro Pitati. Joined to the northwest rim is the crater Hesiodus (crater), Hesiodus, and the two are joined by a narrow cleft. To the south lie the attached Wurzelbauer (crater), Wurzelbauer and Gauricus (crater), Gauricus. Description The complex wall of Pitatus is heavily worn, and has been encroached by lava flows. The rim is lowest to the north, where the lava almost joins the Mare Nubium. Near the middle is a low central peak that is offset to the northwest of center. This peak only rises to a height of 0.5 km. Pitatus is a floor-fractured crater, meaning it was flooded from the interior by magma intrusion through cracks and openings. Lynn Thorndike (24 July 1882, in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA – 28 December 1965, Columbia University Club, New York City) was an American historian of medieval science and alchemy. He was the son of a clergyman, Edward R. Thorndike, and the younger brother of Ashley Horace Thorndike, an American educator and expert on William Shakespeare, and Edward Lee Thorndike, known for being the father of modern educational psychology. Pope Pius IV ( it, Pio IV; 31 March 1499 – 9 December 1565), born Giovanni Angelo Medici, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 25 December 1559 to his death in December 1565.
