Acerenza ( Lucano: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. History With its strategic position above sea-level, Acerenza has been sacked by a series of invaders. The town, then known as ''Aceruntia'', ''Acheruntia'' or ''Acherontia'', was conquered by the Romans in 318 BC.
