Pieter Stockmans
Pieter (Piet) Stockmans (born Leopoldsburg, 26 October 1940) is a Flemish designer and ceramist. Biography Stockmans was born in Leopoldsburg. He studied sculpture and ceramics in Hasselt and in Selb in Germany. After graduation, he settled in Genk. From 1966 to 1989 Stockmans was an industrial designer in the Royal Mosa porcelain factory in Maastricht. In those years he was the chief designer, who designed over 70% of all the company's products. Leopoldsburg (; french: Bourg-Léopold, ; li, Leopolsbörch) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2006, Leopoldsburg had a total population of 14,403. The total area is 22.49 km² (8.68 sq mi) which gives a population density of 640 inhabitants per km² (1,658.7/sq mi). It is situated near the important military base at Beverloo Camp. Hasselt (, , ; la, Hasseletum, Hasselatum) is a Belgian city and municipality, and capital and largest city of the province of Limburg in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is known for its former branding as "the city of taste", as well as its local distelleries of Hasselt jenever (gin), the Hasselt Jenever Festivities, Limburgish pie and the Hasselt speculaas. Selb is a town in the district of Wunsiedel, in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is situated in the Fichtelgebirge, on the border with the Czech Republic, 20 km northwest of Cheb and 23 km southeast of Hof. Selb is well known for its porcelain manufacture, and is the home of the Rosenthal (company) factory, founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal as a family business. The town served in the 1960s as the location for an unrealized town development plan prepared by Walter Gropius shortly before his death. Design Academy Eindhoven is an interdisciplinary educational institute for art, architecture and design in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The work of its faculty and alumni have brought it international recognition, and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading design schools. Design Museum Gent is a museum in Belgium with an international design collection. The museum complex is located in the tourist centre of Ghent and comprises an 18th-century mansion and a modern wing. The museum holds a collection of Belgian design, supported by international objects. History Design Museum Gent originates from a private initiative of a group of industrial design and art lovers who united in 1903 as the Union des Arts Industriels et Décoratifs (Association of Industrial and Decorative Arts) and created a ‘Musée des Modèles’. Keramiekmuseum Princessehof
The Princessehof Ceramics Museum (in Dutch: Keramiekmuseum Princessehof) is a museum of ceramics in the city of Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. The museum's name comes from one of two buildings in which it is housed: a small palace ( means ‘royal court’) built in 1693 and later occupied by Marie Louise, dowager Princess of Orange. The other annexed building is the Papinga stins, a former stronghold from the 15th century. The museum buildings are of interest, and so are its collection of tiles, pottery, and ceramic sculpture. History of the building In 1731, the building was purchased by Marie Louise (known in Leeuwarden as ''Marijke Meu'', 'Aunt Mary'), who had been a widow since 1711 and acted as regent for her son William IV up to that year, when he came of age.
