Pieter Joon
Pieter Christiaan Joon (born February 4, 1942, Amsterdam) founded the World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD) in 1980 in the Netherlands. He was the president of this organization from 1980 to 2001. The General Assembly of the WOVD, in a meeting on 27 October 2001 in Slovenia, decided to award him the title of ''Honorary President''. Joon has been a board member of several different international sports organisations for the disabled. From 1980 to 1989 he was a board member of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF). From 1981 to 1992 he was a board member of the International Sports Organisation for Disabled (ISOD). From 1981 to 1992 he was a member of the Technical Committee of the International Fund Sports Disabled. From 1984 to 1992 he was a member of the Technical Committee Paralympic Games. World Organization Volleyball For Disabled
World ParaVolley, formerly the World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD), is an international organization that is for people with physical disabilities. It is affiliated with the International Paralympic Committee(IPC). The World Organization Volleyball for Disabled was established in 1981 and was part of the International Sports Organization for Disabled (ISOD). In 1992 the WOVD became its own separate Organization in Barcelona, Spain. The WOVD Headquarters were also established in the Netherlands. The WOVD is responsible for managing and controlling the conduct of international volleyball competitions for men, women and youth. The WOVD also liaises with IPC (as an independent organisation) and with other organizations for people with or without disabilities. International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation
The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) is an international sports organisation that governs sports for athletes with physical impairments. IWAS is a registered charity with its headquarters located at Aylesbury College in Buckinghamshire. It is the international governing body for the Paralympic sport of wheelchair fencing as well as the developing sport of Power hockey. IWAS has over 60 member nations and it provides support for sporting opportunities across the world. The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the ''Games of the Paralympiad'', is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power and impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment.
