Piet Wijn
Pieter Cornelis Wijn (17 May 1929 – 6 October 2010) was a prolific Dutch comics creator. Wijn was born in Hilversum. His creations include the cartoon versions of Marten Toonder's Tom Puss and Kappie, Gloria van Goes, Douwe Dabbert, and many other cartoons. He was awarded the Stripschapsprijs in 1984. Hilversum () is a city and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Located in the heart of the Gooi, it is the largest urban centre in that area. Marten Toonder
Marten Toonder (2 May 1912 – 27 July 2005) was a Dutch comic strip creator, born in Rotterdam. He was probably the most successful comic artist in the Netherlands and had a great influence on the Dutch language by introducing new words and expressions. He is most famous for his series ''Tom Puss'' and ''Panda''. Tom Puss/Oliver B. Bumble series In 1931 after his final exams, Marten Toonder went to Buenos Aires with his father. Here he got acquainted with the work of the well-known Argentine artist and editor Dante Quinterno, who ran a studio producing comics. Quinterno's creations impressed him to such a degree that he decided to become an artist himself. His most famous comic series were the Tom Puss (''Tom Poes'' in Dutch) and Oliver B. Bumble (''Olivier B. Bommel'' in Dutch) series that appeared in a Dutch newspaper from 1941–86. It has a very characteristic format. ''Tom Puss'' (''Tom Poes'' in Dutch) is a Dutch comic strip, created by Marten Toonder. Together with Hans G. Kresse's '' Eric de Noorman'' and Pieter Kuhn's ''Kapitein Rob'' it is regarded as the Big Three of Dutch comics. ''Tom Poes'' was a talking animal comic, published in text comics format. The main protagonists are Tom Poes, a white anthropomorphic cat, and his best friend, lord Oliver B. Bumble (''Olivier B. Bommel'' in Dutch). The series is sometimes referred to as the ''Bommelsaga'' as well. Toonder received many awards and honorary distinctions for both his illustrations and literary output. Douwe Dabbert
''Douwe Dabbert'' is a Dutch fantasy comics series by artist Piet Wijn and scenarist . It was published in the Netherlands between 1975 and 2001, and in the United States beginning in 2021. Concept Douwe Dabbert is a fantasy comic set in an undetermined past, though in two stories "De Weg naar west" ("The Way to West") and "De zee naar zuid" ("The Sea to South") he meets representatives of the West-Indische Compagnie, which would put those of his adventures before 1792. But then in "De tanden van Casius Gaius"("The teeth of Casius Gaius") we see the royal Dutch coat of arms which would make that one and the following adventures take place after 1815 as that was the year the kingdom of Netherlands was created. Despite the historical context the comic makes use of many fantastic elements such as witchcraft, fictitious kingdoms and anthropomorphic animals. Leidschendam
Leidschendam () is a town and former municipality in the province of South Holland of the Netherlands. Along with Voorburg and Stompwijk, it is part of the municipality Leidschendam-Voorburg. History The town's name has been in use for centuries and refers to the lock in the Vliet, near the historic city of Leiden. The settlement on the northern side of the lock was known as 'Veur', until the formation of the municipality of Leidschendam in 1938.
