Baroque Music
Baroque music ( or ) refers to the period or dominant style of Western classical music composed from about 1600 to 1750. Arion is a French record company and label founded in 1962 by Ariane Segal. The label takes its name from the ancient Greek poet and lyre-player, Arion. Paul Kuentz
Paul Kuentz (4 May 1930 in Mulhouse, France) is a French conductor who studied at the Paris Conservatoire from 1947 to 1950, with Noël Gallon, Georges Hugon and Eugene Bigot. Career He founded the Paul Kuentz Chamber Orchestra in 1951 and made many tours of Europe and the USA, performing the orchestral works of Bach at the Church of Saint-Séverin and at Carnegie Hall in 1968. He and his orchestra also completed two popular tours of Southern Africa. He frequently performs French music, including premieres of works by Pierre Max Dubois, Jacques Casterede and Jacques Charpentier. In 1956 he married Monique Frasca-Colombier. Pierre-Marie François Pincemaille (8 December 1956 – 12 January 2018) was a French organist, improviser, and pedagogue. He was known for his organ improvisations, both in concert and on CD and for his recordings of Charles-Marie Widor's complete organ symphonies played on organs built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, as well as his recordings of the complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé and César Franck, and organ works of Pierre Cochereau and Louis Vierne in particular. He was titular organist at the Basilica of Saint-Denis until his death and was regarded as one of the finest organists of his generation. Gilbert Bezzina is a French violinist and conductor of baroque opera. Gilbert Bezzina studied violin at the Conservatory of Nice and continues to perform and record as a violinist. Françoise Lasserre (born 7 April 1955) is a French conductor, artistic director of the Akadêmia ensemble since 1986. Life After graduating in mathematics, Lasserre completed her flute training, studying piano, choral singing, harmony, writing and conducting at the École Normale de Musique de Paris in Pierre Dervaux's class. At the beginning of the 1980s, she worked under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe within La Chapelle Royale and the Collegium Vocale Gent, then, as a chorister with Michel Corboz. Akadêmia is a French early music ensemble founded in 1986 by conductor Françoise Lasserre. The initial group of singers were formed from members of Philippe Herreweghe's Chapelle Royale. The ensemble are frequent artists at France's major early music festivals such as the Ambronay Festival.
