Pierre Geelhand De Merxem
Pierre Geelhand de Merxem (1910 – 1982) was a Belgian tennis player of the 1930s and 1940s. Geelhand was Belgium's national singles champion in 1938 and won a further 12 national titles in doubles. In 1946 he won through to the third round at Wimbledon, losing in four sets to Budge Patty. He was beaten in the third round of the 1948 French Championships by 15th-seed Marcello del Bello in five sets. Between 1936 and 1948 he featured in 14 Davis Cup ties for Belgium. He was non-playing captain of the Belgian sides which were Inter-Zonal finalists in 1953 and 1957. ''The Sun'' was an Australian afternoon tabloid newspaper, first published under that name in 1910. History ''The Sunday Sun'' was first published on 5 April 1903. In 1910 Hugh Denison founded Sun Newspaper Ltd and took over publication of the old and ailing and ''Australian Star'' and its sister ''Sunday Sun'', appointing Monty Grover as editor-in-chief. Budge Patty
Edward John Patty (February 11, 1924 – October 4, 2021), better known as Budge Patty, was an American world no. 1 tennis player whose career spanned a period of 15 years after World War II. He won two Grand Slam singles titles in 1950. He was the second American male player to win the Channel Slam (winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year) and one of only three as of 2021. Early life Edward John Patty was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on February 11, 1924. His grandmother was born in France, while one of his grandfathers was Austrian. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format.
