Pierre Boncompagni
Pierre "Pagnibon" Boncompagni (19 May 1913 – 7 June 1953) was a French racing driver, best remembered for winning the 1951 Tour de France Automobile. Career Early races In 1947, Boncompagni took part in the Circuito di Pescara in a Stanguellini 1100 but retired. In 1949, he finished second in a race for cars over 2000cc in Nice and was second in class in a hillclimb at Mt. Ventoux. Although his biggest successes would be in sportscars, he also drove a DB in some 500cc Formula Three races: in 1950 he retired from a race at Montlhéry, and in 1951 he raced at Draguignan, finishing runner-up in the second heat. 1950 In 1950, he purchased a Talbot-Lago T150C SS, chassis number 90120, and would drive it under the entry Ecurie Nice to considerable success over the next two years. Philip Toll Hill Jr. (April 20, 1927 – August 28, 2008) was an American automobile racing driver. He was one of two American drivers to win the Formula One World Drivers' Championship, and the only one who was born in the United States (the other, Mario Andretti, was born in Italy and later became an American citizen). It used 4.1 L '' Lampredi'' V12 engine producing around at 6600 rpm, for a maximum speed of 280 km/h. The circuit Reims-Gueux was a Grand Prix motor racing road course, located in Gueux, Marne, Gueux, 7.5 km (5 miles) west of Reims in the Champagne (historical province), Champagne region of north-eastern France, established in 1926 as the second venue of the Grand Prix de la Marne. Thomas Lionel Howard Cole, Jr. (11 June 1922 – 14 June 1953), also known as Tom Cole or Tommy Cole, was a British-American racing driver and co-creator of the Cadillac-Allard sports car. Afflicted by childhood polio, he served in non-combat roles in World War II, and then took up rallying, hillclimbing, and sports car racing full-time after the war. He died, aged 31, in a crash while driving in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans. Early life Cole was born in Llandaff, in South Glamorgan, Wales, U.K. on 11 June 1922. He contracted polio in childhood, and largely recovered, but the illness left him with minor disabilities, for the rest of his life. 1952 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 20th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 14–15 June 1952 at Circuit de la Sarthe. After 22 years away, Mercedes-Benz returned in triumph, scoring a 1–2 victory with their new gull-wing Mercedes-Benz W194 which was equipped with a 3.0L S6 engine that had less power than the road car sold two years later. Aston Martin, with their DB3, joined Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Cunningham in the top-level sports prototype game, setting the stage for the rivalries that provided so much drama during the rest of the decade.
