Picton Road is a rural road that links Picton and Wollongong through the Macarthur region of New South Wales. It provides an important link between the Hume and Princes Motorways. Route Picton Road starts with from the intersection with Old Hume Highway ( Remembrance Drive) in Picton, then heads in a south-easterly direction, rossing the Nepean River and then Hume Motorway and continues over grass-forested ranges east of Wilton (passing through Sydney Water Catchment areas) until it ends at the intersection with Mount Ousley Road (Princes Motorway) in the southern fringes of Cataract. Remembrance Drive
Remembrance Drive is a rural road that links Camden and Alpine on the fringes of south-western Sydney, New South Wales. The road served as the former alignment of Hume Highway and now forms part of Old Hume Highway. Route Remembrance Drive commences at the intersection of Camden Valley Way and Cawdor Road in Camden and heads south as a two-lane, single carriageway road through Camden, widening to a four-lane, dual-carriageway road at the intersection with Camden Bypass, narrowing soon after to a two-lane, single carriageway road at Camden Park, and twisting through the Razorback Range, passing through the towns of Picton, Tahmoor, Bargo and Yanderra, where it meets Hume Motorway for the first time. The present highway network in New South Wales, Australia was established in August 1928 when the Country Roads Board (the predecessor of the Department of Main Roads, Roads & Traffic Authority and Roads & Maritime Services) superseded the 1924 main road classifications and established the basis of the existing New South Wales main road system. (the full list of main roads gazetted appears in the Government Gazette of the State of New South Wales of 17 August 1928). The number of a road for administrative purposes is not the same as the route number it carries e.g. the Great Western Highway is Highway 5 for administrative purposes but is signposted as part of route A32.) The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Picton is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in the Wollondilly Shire, in south-western Sydney. The town is located approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Sydney, close to Camden and Campbelltown. It is also the administrative centre of Wollondilly Shire. History Picton was first explored by Europeans in 1798 and remained beyond the limits of legal settlement until 1821. Following the discovery of good land in the interior and the settlement of Bong Bong and the Goulburn areas, Governor Macquarie authorised the building of the new Great South Road between Sydney and the Southern Highlands in 1819.
