Picker Institute Europe
The Picker Institute Europe was founded by Harvey Picker and his wife Jean in 2000. It is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing a patient-centred approach to healthcare. The American Picker Institute ceased operations in January 2013. The Institute has been carrying out surveys of patient experience in the National Health Service since 1998. It has been fully self-financing since 2002. The NHS survey co-ordination centre, run by the Institute, co-ordinates the NHS patient survey programmes on behalf of the Care Quality Commission. Hospedia worked with the Institute on a study in 2012, to test the efficacy of their Real-Time Patient Feedback system to collect information from patients while they were still in hospital. Harvey Picker
Harvey Picker (December 8, 1915 – March 22, 2008) was an American businessman, educator, inventor, and philanthropist. He was the founder, along with his wife, Jean, of the Boston-based ''Picker Institute'', whose goal was to promote patient-centered healthcare. In 2000, they founded the Picker Institute Europe. His wife, Mrs. Jean Sovatkin Picker (Smith College, 1942), who died in 1990, served as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations and was a journalist for Life Magazine. They "funded the development of survey methods widely used in America and Europe to gauge patient satisfaction." The National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). Since 1948, they have been funded out of general taxation. There are three systems which are referred to using the "NHS" name ( NHS England, NHS Scotland and NHS Wales). Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland was created separately and is often locally referred to as "the NHS". Care Quality Commission
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom. It was established in 2009 to regulate and inspect health and social care services in England. It was formed from three predecessor organisations: * the Healthcare Commission * the Commission for Social Care Inspection * the Mental Health Act Commission The CQC's stated role is to make sure that hospitals, care homes, dental and general practices and other care services in England provide people with safe, effective and high-quality care, and to encourage those providers to improve. Hospedia Ltd is a provider of bedside communication and entertainment units in UK hospitals, as well as clinical work flow solutions. History Hospedia Ltd is a private limited company, established in 1993. Hospedia acquired Patientline during July 2008 after the company entered administration. Bliss (charity)
Bliss is a UK-based charity for babies born premature or sick. Bliss supports the families of babies in neonatal care and works with health professionals to provide training and improve care for babies. It campaigns for improved hospital resources across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and is actively involved in pioneering neonatal research. It exists to give every baby born premature or sick in the UK the best chance of survival and quality of life. Its Chief Executive is Caroline Lee-Davey. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, often referred to as the RCPCH, is the professional body for paediatricians (doctors specialising in child health) in the United Kingdom. Friends And Family Test
The Friends and Family Test was introduced into the English NHS in 2013. It was a single question survey which asked patients whether they would recommend the NHS service they have received to friends and family who need similar treatment or care. The friends and family question: “We would like you to think about your experience in the ward where you spent the most time during this stay. How likely are you to recommend our ward to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? Patients could answer as “extremely likely”; “likely”; “neither likely nor unlikely”; “unlikely”; “extremely unlikely”; or “don’t know”. The Prime Minister announced on 25 May 2012 that the Friends and Family Test would be introduced across the NHS from April 2013.
