Piazzale Flaminio
Piazzale Flaminio is a square in Rome (Italy) and the starting point of the Via Flaminia. It divides the Flaminio (Rome), Flaminio and the Pinciano quarters. Description The square extends just outside the Aurelian Walls. Porta del Popolo, on its south side, connects it to Piazza del Popolo. On its east side there are the neoclassical propylaeum, propylaea giving access to Villa Borghese gardens, Villa Borghese, designed by Luigi Canina. Luigi Canina
Luigi Canina ( Casale Monferrato, 1795 – Florence, 1856) was an Italian archaeologist and architect. Luigi Canina, Italian architect and archeologist, was born in Casale Monferrato in 1795 and died in Florence in 1856. He was a pupil of Ferdinando Bonsignore in Turin, and settled in Rome in 1818. Among his works are: some construction at the Villa Borghese (monumental neoclassical propylaea from Piazzale Flaminio); Casino Vagnuzzi outside of Porta del Popolo in Egyptian style; not realized projects for reconstruction of the sanctuary of Oropa (1856). He became professor of architecture at Turin, and his most important works were the excavation of Tusculum in 1829 and of the Appian Way in 1848, the results of which he embodied in a number of works published in a costly form by his patroness, the queen of Sardinia. The Piazzale Flaminio railway station is a railway station in Rome ( Italy) and the terminus of the Rome–Civitacastellana–Viterbo railway, managed by ATAC. Line A ( it, Linea A) of the Rome Metro runs across the city from the north-west terminus of Battistini to the south-east terminus at Anagnina. It intersects with Line B at Termini and with Line C at San Giovanni. The line is marked orange on metro maps. Normally very crowded, Line A is estimated to transport nearly half a million people daily. Flaminio – Piazza Del Popolo (Rome Metro)
Flaminio–Piazza del Popolo is an underground station on Line A of the Rome Metro, inaugurated in 1980. The station is situated on the large Piazzale Flaminio, in the Flaminio quarter outside the Aurelian Walls, next to Piazza del Popolo, and is near the Campus Martius. A tram (line 2) connects the Piazzale Flaminio to the Stadio Flaminio, the Auditorium at the Parco della Musica, the Palazzetto of the Sport and the Stadio Olimpico. The entrance hall of the station accommodates some mosaics of the Rome Artemetro Prize, created by Paul D' Orazio and Lee Doo Shik. Villa Borghese Gardens
Villa Borghese is a landscape garden in Rome, containing a number of buildings, museums (see Galleria Borghese) and attractions. It is the third largest public park in Rome (80 hectares or 197.7 acres) after the ones of the Villa Doria Pamphili and Villa Ada. The gardens were developed for the Galleria Borghese, Villa Borghese Pinciana ("Borghese villa on the Pincian Hill"), built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese, who used it as a ''villa suburbana'', or party villa, at the edge of Rome, and to house his art collection. The gardens as they are now were remade in the late 18th century.
