Hobsonia
''Hobsonia'' is a genus of fungi in the family (biology), family Phleogenaceae. The genus is currently monotypic taxon, monotypic, with a single recognized species, ''Hobsonia mirabilis''. The type species, ''H. gigaspora'', and ''H. ackermannii'' are considered to be synonyms and additional lichenicolous species have now been transferred to the Ascomycota, ascomycete genera ''Hobsoniopsis'' and ''Illosporiopsis''. ''Hobsonia mirabilis'' is only known in its anamorph form, which is whitish, gelatinous, pustular, and occurs on dead woody plant remains. Microscopically, it produces coiled or spiralled conidia. The species was formerly of uncertain disposition, but Molecular phylogenetics, molecular research, based on cladistic analysis of DNA sequences, has shown that it belongs within the Atractiellales. Though originally described from New York, the species is more commonly found in the tropics and subtropics. References

Carleton Rea
Carleton Rea (7 May 1861 – 26 June 1946) was an English mycologist, botanist, and naturalist. Background and education Carleton Rea was born in Worcester, the son of the City Coroner. He was educated at The King's School and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied law. He entered the Inner Temple and became a barrister in the Oxford Circuit, but never pursued his career with undue enthusiasm and ceased taking cases by 1907. Natural history and mycology In the words of John Ramsbottom, Rea was "active in his leisure" and devoted much of his time to natural history, having joined his local Worcestershire Naturalists' Club as a schoolboy (he was president of the club in its centenary year, at the time of his death). He collaborated with John Amphlett in the ''Botany of Worcestershire'', published in 1909, and wrote several later supplements. His first paper in 1892 was on rare plants of the Severn Valley. Rea's special interest was in fungi and in 1896 he was one of the ...

Genera
Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms as well as viruses. In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. ''Panthera leo'' (lion) and ''Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus '' Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants of an ancestral taxon are grouped together (i.e. phylogenetic analysis should clearly demons ...
