OMC (band)
OMC, or Otara Millionaires Club, were a New Zealand music group, then duo, with vocalist Pauly Fuemana later becoming the sole member. OMC was best known for the 1995 hit " How Bizarre", named one of the greatest New Zealand songs of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association. The full name of the band is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Otara's status as one of the poorest suburbs of Auckland. Career Origin (1992–1995) The Otara Millionaires Club was formed in 1992 by Phil Fuemana, who had played in the bands Houseparty and Fuemana. Fuemana and his younger brother Pauly Fuemana recorded two tracks as the new band for producer Alan Jansson's Urban Pacifica collection ''Proud''. Jansson had achieved cult status as composer/producer for the synthpop group Body Electric during the early 1980s. In 1994, after the split of the Otara Millionaires Club, Pauly approached Jansson and the two formed a musical partnership, with Fuemana the public face and Jansson as produc ... How Bizarre (album)
''How Bizarre'' is the only album by the New Zealand musical group OMC, released in 1996. It was first released on 27 September under the Huh! recording label, issued by PolyGram New Zealand, and manufactured and marketed by Mercury Records on 25 February 1997 in the United States. The album garnered a surprised, but generally positive reaction from critics; it was considered so bold and unique that it could not be compared to anything, and journalists struggled to classify it as one thing or another. ''How Bizarre'' reached number 5 in its native New Zealand and number 40 on the ''Billboard'' 200, spawning four singles: the title track, "Right On", "On the Run" and "Land of Plenty". It was also certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting sales of over 500,000 copies in that country, becoming the best-selling Urban Pasifika album. ''How Bizarre'' was reissued globally on vinyl for the first time on April 16, 2021, remastered by Alan Jansson ... Proud (compilation)
''Proud: An Urban Pacific Streetsoul Compilation'' is a 1994 New Zealand hip hop and R&B compilation album. It was released in New Zealand by Second Nature Records and in Australia by Volition Records, and later rereleased in New Zealand by Huh! Records in 2000. ''Proud'' has been described as "one of the most important NZ releases in the past decades" by New Zealand music industry figure Simon Grigg. Background The album had its origins with the work of record producer Alan Jansson. In his Freemans Bay recording studio, Uptown Studios, he was impressed with the young hip hop and R&B acts from South Auckland and West Auckland who were recording at the studio, and the initial success of the resulting singles. Encouraged by Andrew Penhallow of Australian label Volition Records, Jansson started work on a compilation album to showcase the new musical talent of Auckland. While the album was based around hip hop and R&B music, Jansson's production emphasised the Pacific sounds of ...
