Philippe De Broca
Philippe de Broca (; 15 March 1933 – 26 November 2004) was a French movie director. He directed 30 full-length feature films, including the highly successful ''That Man from Rio, That Man from Rio (''L'Homme de Rio'')'', ''Le Magnifique, The Man from Acapulco (Le Magnifique)'' and ''On Guard (1997 film), On Guard (Le Bossu)''. His works include historical, romantic epics such as ''Chouans!'' and ''King of Hearts (1966 film), King of Hearts (Le Roi de cœur)'', as well as comedies with a charismatic, breezy hero ready to embark upon any adventure which comes his way, so long as it means escaping everyday modern life: ''Practice Makes Perfect (Le Cavaleur)'', ''The Devil by the Tail (Le Diable par la queue)'', ''The African (L'Africain)''. ''Le Beau Serge'' (, literal English translation: "Handsome Serge") is a 1958 French film directed by Claude Chabrol. It has been cited as the first product of the Nouvelle Vague, or French New Wave, film movement. Plot Victor Vauthier, a lovable rogue and mythomaniac who does not want to give up his ways, leaves prison, causing great sadness to his guards, who had come to like him during his three-month imprisonment. Alexandre Alexandrovich Mnouchkine (russian: Алекса́ндр Алекса́ндрович Мну́шкин; 10 February 1908, St. Petersburg, Russian Empire – 3 April 1993, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France) was a French film producer. ''Cartouche'' is a 1962 French adventurer film directed by Philippe de Broca and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale. Plot In the 18th century, Louis Dominique Bourguignon is working with Malichot's gang but their ways are too 'unethical' for him. He hides out from Malichot and joins the army where he and his two new friends survive by hiding out on the battlefield. Together, they rob the general of his gold. Fleeing, they stop at an inn where they meet Venus, a beautiful gypsy who has been taken prisoner. He rescues her and she joins his gang. Returning to Paris, Bourguignon creates his own gang, acting under the name of Cartouche with most of Malichot's gang joining him. Pierre Schoendoerffer (french: Pierre Schœndœrffer; 5 May 1928 – 14 March 2012) was a French film director, a screenwriter, a writer, a war reporter, a war cameraman, a renowned First Indochina War veteran, a cinema academician.
