Philip Wollen
Philip Wollen OAM (born 1950) is an Australian philanthropist, environmentalist and animal rights activist. He is a former Vice-President of Citibank and was also General Manager at Citicorp. Wollen is a vegan and funds projects that protect children, animals and the environment. At age 34, '' Australian Business Magazine'' named him in the "Brightest and Best" top 40 headhunted executives in Australia. In 2005 he received the Medal of the Order of Australia and in 2007 he won the Australian of the Year (Victoria) award. Wollen went to school at the Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bangalore. He delivered the General Thimayya Memorial Lecture in Bangalore, India in 2008. He lives with his wife Trix in Melbourne, Victoria. Cruelty
Cruelty is the pleasure in inflicting suffering or inaction towards another's suffering when a clear remedy is readily available. Sadism can also be related to this form of action or concept. Cruel ways of inflicting suffering may involve violence, but affirmative violence is not necessary for an act to be cruel. For example, if a person is drowning and begging for help and another person is able to help with no cost or risk, but is merely watching with disinterest or perhaps mischievous amusement, that person is being cruel—rather than violent. Damien Mander
Damien Mander (born 11 December 1979 in Mornington, Australia) is an anti-poaching activist and the founder of the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF). He is a former Australian Royal Navy Clearance Diver and Special Operations military sniper. He is also a director of the Conservation Guardians. In 2019 he received the Winsome Constance Kindness Trust Gold Medal. Christine Elizabeth Townend (born 1944) is an Australian animal rights activist, artist and author. Born in Melbourne, Townend grew up in Sydney's lower North Shore. Townend had her first novel published by Macmillan in 1974. It was described as a precursor to Australian feminist literature and has recently been republished on-line by Macmillan Memento. She then received a 6-month fellowship from the Australian Council for the Arts. In 1975 Townend journeyed to India, returning with a commitment to animal rights. Jill Robinson MBE is a British animal welfare activist. She is the founder of Animals Asia Foundation. Biography Born and raised in England, Robinson was always interested in the welfare of animals. As a child she volunteered in veterinary offices during her school holidays. In the mid-1980s she moved to Hong Kong, where she began working for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, focusing on work in China and South Korea. In 1993, Robinson visited a bear bile farm in China. Andrew Linzey (born 2 February 1952) is an English Anglican priest, theologian, and prominent figure in Christian vegetarianism. He is a member of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Oxford, and held the world's first academic post in Ethics, Theology and Animal Welfare, the Bede Jarret Senior Research Fellowship at Blackfriars Hall. Paul Watson
Paul Franklin Watson (born December 2, 1950) is a Canadian-American conservation and environmental movement, environmental activist, who founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an anti-poaching and direct action group focused on marine conservation activism. The tactics used by Sea Shepherd have attracted opposition, with the group accused of eco-terrorism by both the Japanese government and Greenpeace. Watson is a citizen of Canada and the United States. The Toronto native joined a Sierra Club, Sierra Club protest against nuclear testing in 1969.
