Philip Awiti-Alcaraz
Philip Awiti-Alcaraz (born 13 August 1993) is a British judoka. Early life Awiti-Alcaraz was born in Enfield, Greater London to a Kenyan father and a Mexican mother. His sister Prisca, brothers Joshua, Samy and Micheal, and cousins all joined Enfield Judo Club. On a scholarship, Awiti-Alcaraz pursued a Bachelor of Science in Sports Coaching Practice at the University of Wolverhampton. Judo career Awiti-Alcaraz became champion of Great Britain, winning the half-heavyweight division at the British Judo Championships in 2015. Prisca Awiti Alcaraz
Prisca Guadalupe Awiti Alcaraz (born 20 February 1996) is a Mexican judoka. She represented Mexico at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she won a silver medal, becoming the first Mexican athlete to win an Olympic medal in judo. Early life and education Awiti-Alcaraz was born in Enfield, United Kingdom to Kenyan father Xavier and Mexican mother María Dolores. Her mother hails from León, Guanajuato. Before getting into judo, she swam and did gymnastics. Her brothers Philip, Joshua, Samy, and Micheal as well as her cousins all joined Enfield Judo Club. She studied sports performance at the University of Bath and was a member of the Team Bath Sports Training Village. Career Awiti Alcaraz has represented Mexico since 2017 and relocated to Mexico from the U.K. full-time in 2022. The British Judo Championships are held annually and feature various age and weight categories to determine the British champion. The Championships are currently held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Until 2013, the Championships were held under the title of either the British Closed Championships or the British Senior Trials. In 2013, the British Closed Championships/Senior Trials were merged with the all-age British Championships. The 2020 Championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
