Phil Summerill
Philip Ernest Summerill (born 20 November 1947) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker in the Football League for Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, Millwall and Wimbledon. Summerill was born in Erdington, Birmingham. He spent the major part of his professional career at Birmingham City, whom he joined from school. He was their leading scorer for three successive seasons from 1968–69 to 1970–71,Matthews, pp. 204–06. and contributed to their promotion to the Football League First Division in 1972. He went on to play League football for Huddersfield Town, Millwall and Wimbledon, and for several more years in non-League football. He later worked for Birmingham City Council in football development and coaching. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Football League Fourth Division
The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Whilst the division disappeared in name in 1992, the 4th tier of English football continued as the Football League Third Division, and later became known as Football League Two. Non-League Football
Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation.
