Phil Rookes
Philip William Rookes (23 April 1919 – February 2003) was an English footballer who played as a full back in the Football League. Career Born in Dulverton, Somerset, Rookes played for Bradford City, Portsmouth and Colchester United in the Football League. Rookes joined Bradford City in October 1936 from Worksop Town.Frost, p. 406 He made 11 league and 3 FA Cup appearances, before joining Portsmouth in January 1938. Dulverton
Dulverton is a small town and civil parish in west Somerset, England, near the border with Devon. The town had a population of 1,408 at the 2011 United Kingdom census, 2011 Census. The parish includes the hamlets of Battleton and Ashwick which is located approximately north west of Dulverton. To the west of the hamlet lies Ashwick House (near Dulverton), Ashwick House, built in the Edwardian style in 1901. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. The Football League War Cup was an association football tournament held between 1939 and 1945. It aimed to fill the gap left in English football by the suspension of the FA Cup during the Second World War. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world.
