Phil J. Welch
Philip James Welch (April 4, 1895 – April 26, 1963) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri. Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, Welch was educated in the public schools. He engaged in the furniture business 1916–1931. Treasurer of city of St. Joseph 1932-1936 and mayor 1936–1946. He served as delegate to Democratic National Convention in 1940. He served as assistant director of Reconstruction Finance Corporation, Kansas City, Missouri, in 1946 and 1947. Missouri's 3rd Congressional District
Missouri's third congressional district is in the eastern and central portion of the state. It surrounds but does not include St Louis City. Its current representative is Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer. The district took its current form in 2013, when Missouri lost a congressional district as a result of the 2010 census. At that time, much of the northern portion of the old 9th district was added to the 6th district, while most of the remaining territory became the new 3rd district. The current 3rd district is primarily exurban and rural in character and is the second-wealthiest of Missouri's congressional districts, after the neighboring 2nd district. From 1953 to 2013, the 3rd had been located in the southern portion of the St. Louis area, including the southern third of St. Louis City, and had a dramatically different political history from the current 3rd. William Clay Cole
William Clay Cole (August 29, 1897 – September 23, 1965) was a Republican Party (United States), Republican United States House of Representatives, representative from Missouri's 3rd congressional district from 1943 to 1949 and Missouri's 6th congressional district from 1953 to 1955. Background William Clay Cole was born on August 29, 1897, on a farm near Fillmore, Missouri. Career In 1916, Cole was a mounted Reconnaissance, scout on the Mexico, Mexican border with the Missouri National Guard during the Pancho Villa Expedition and then served in France for 14 months during World War I. After the war he graduated from St. Joseph Law School (which operated under the auspices of the YMCA in St. Joseph, Missouri from 1912 to 1938). Leonor Sullivan
Leonor Kretzer Sullivan (August 21, 1902 – September 1, 1988) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Missouri. She was a Democrat and the first woman in Congress from Missouri. Biography Born Leonor Kretzer in St. Louis, Missouri, three of her grandparents were German immigrants. Sullivan attended Washington University in St. Louis and was a teacher and director at St. Louis Comptometer school. She was married to John B. Sullivan, who served four terms in Congress, and she served as his administrative aide. Following her husband's death in 1951, she served as an aide to Congressman Leonard Irving until she left to run for Congress herself in 1952. She was re-elected eleven times.
