Petrovsky Island
Petrovsky Island (russian: Петро́вский о́стров) is an island in Saint Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Russia, bordered by the Malaya Neva River, Malaya Neva, Malaya Nevka River, Malaya Nevka, and Zhdanovka, Zhdanovka Rivers (in the delta of the Neva River). History The island was called Stolbovy or Pattisaari in the early 18th century. It belonged to Tsar Peter the Great in 1710 (hence the name) with two amusement houses built for him. There were warehouses for foodstuff and other goods in the island in the 18th century. In 1768, a wooden palace was erected for Catherine II, Catherine the Great and a park, Petrovsky Park set up around it in the southeast of the island, the palace burnt down in 1912 though. Neva Bay
The Neva Bay (Russian: Не́вская губа́, ''Névskaya Gubá''), also known as the Gulf of Kronstadt, is the easternmost part of the Gulf of Finland between Kotlin Island and the Neva River estuary where Saint Petersburg city centre is located. It has a surface area of . The entire bay has been separated from the Gulf of Finland by the 25 km long Saint Petersburg Dam. The area of water separated by the dam is . Petrovsky Stadium
The Petrovsky Stadium (russian: стадион «Петровский») is on a sports complex that consists of a number of buildings, the stadium is used mostly for football and also for athletics. The Grand Sport Arena of the Petrovsky Sport Complex was the home of FC Zenit and FC Tosno. The complex also contains another football stadium, Minor Sport Arena (MSA). MSA of Petrovsky in 2022 is used by several teams that compete in lower professional leagues: FC Dynamo Saint Petersburg and FC Zenit-2 Saint Petersburg (selected matches). The capacity of MSA is 2835. Petrogradsky Island or Petrograd Island (Russian: Петроградский остров) is the third largest island in the Neva River delta in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Along with Zayachy Island, Aptekarsky Island, and Petrovsky Island, it constitutes the Petrogradskaya Side (Russian: Петроградская сторона). Betancourt Bridge
Betancourt Bridge (russian: Мост Бетанку́ра, ''Most Betankura'') is a non-bascule 6-lane bridge with a cycle path in Saint Petersburg that opened in 2018. The bridge crosses the Little Neva and the Zhdanovka rivers, passing Petrovsky and , and connects the Vasilyevsky and Petrogradsky islands. The bridge is part of the , it allows non-stop traffic from Pulkovo Airport to the Krestovsky Stadium. First ideas to construct a bridge across appeared as early as in the 1980s. Dekabristov Island
Dekabristov Island (russian: остров Декабристов, lit=Decembrists Island), known prior to 1926 as Goloday Island (остров Голодай – possibly a corruption of a British merchant name Halliday) is an island in Vasileostrovsky District of Saint Petersburg, Russia, to the north of Vasilyevsky Island, separated from it by Smolenka River. The island, originally low-lying and frequently flooded, all the same was traditionally used as the Smolensky Lutheran Cemetery. In the early Soviet period, the name was changed to Decembrists' Island to commemorate five executed leaders of Decembrist revolt, who were buried in an unmarked grave on Goloday. In 1911, a British investment company launched a development project on a 1 square-kilometer lot in western Goloday Island, hiring Ivan Fomin and Fyodor Lidval to design a Neoclassical middle-classical neighborhood. Bolshoy Petrovsky Bridge
The Great or Bolshoi Petrovsky bridge is a bridge across Little Nevka in St. Petersburg, Russia, connecting Petrovsky Island with Krestovsky Island and passing over a small nameless islet on Little Nevka. It is very near the mouth of the river, which flows into the Finnish Gulf. A wooden draw bridge was built in 1838. In 1916 the bridge was accommodated to two-way vehicular traffic. In 1947 the bridge was upgraded, with the spans replaced by metal beams; it now measured long and wide. In December 1993, ice destroyed part of the bridge structure. After that, the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic; it was narrowed to and was used only by pedestrians. The construction of a new bridge was started in 2009, and this opened in 2010. Krestovsky Island
Krestovsky Island (russian: Крестовский остров) is a 3.4 km2 island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, between several tributaries of the Neva: the Srednyaya Nevka, the Malaya Nevka and the Krestovka. The island is served by the Krestovsky Ostrov station of Saint Petersburg Metro. Until recently, the western part of the island was occupied by the Maritime Victory Park, where the international Goodwill Games of sports and athletics competition took place in 1994, which was the first large scale post-Soviet Union international event in Russia.
