Petronella Van Woensel
Petronella van Woensel (14 May 1785 – 12 November 1839) was a Dutch painter and a graphic artist. Woensel was born in Raalte and became a pupil of the flower painters Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os and Jan van Os.Woensel in the RKD She is known for her flower paintings and from 1822 was an honorary member of the Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten. There exist also sets of drawings and etchings by her hand, many of them are copy after other masters. Raalte () is a municipality and a town in the heart of the region of Salland in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Population centres The municipality consists of the following towns and villages. Raalte is the main place of the municipality, with over 20,000 mostly Roman Catholic inhabitants. It is a regional market, education and shopping centre. Georgius Jacobus Johannes Van Os
Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os (20 November 1782 The Hague – 11 July 1861 Paris), was a 19th-century painter from the Northern Netherlands. Biography According to the RKD he was a son and pupil of the painters Jan van Os and Susanna de la Croix, and a brother of the painters Pieter van Os and Maria Margaretha van Os.Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os in the RKD In 1809 he won the first prize of the Society Felix Meritis in Amsterdam for a still life in which genre he later specialized. Van Os became Ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw in 1812. From 1816 to 1820 he worked in Amsterdam. In 1822 he moved to Paris, where he worked for the Sèvres porcelain factory. He painted landscapes, but was, like his father, best known as a painter of flowers. Jan Van Os
Jan van Os (23 February 1744 – 7 February 1808) was a Dutch painter and a member of the renowned Van Os family of artists. Biography Van Os was born in Middelharnis. He was taught by Aert Schouman in The Hague, where he would spend the rest of his life. In 1773, he recorded in the painters' confraternity. In 1775, he married Susanna de La Croix, an able pastellist and the daughter of the deaf-mute portraitist Pieter Frederik de la Croix. Van Os is mostly known for his fruit and flower still life paintings, though he started his career painting seascapes. His floral still lifes were painted in the style of Jan van Huysum, with the flowers usually presented on a marble ledge against a green background. Rijksakademie
The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) was founded in 1870 in Amsterdam. It is a classical academy, a place where philosophers, academics and artists meet to test and exchange ideas and knowledge. The school supports visual artists with a two-year curriculum. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten was the home of Amsterdam Impressionism, part of the international impressionist movement, and is known as the School of Allebé by art historians; August Allebé became the school's director in 1880. Maria Margaretha Van Os
Maria Margaretha van Os (November 15, 1779 – November 17, 1862), was a 19th-century flower painter from the Northern Netherlands. Biography She was born in The Hague as the daughter of the painters Jan van Os and Susanna de la Croix. She was the younger sister of Pieter Gerardus van Os and became the older sister of Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os and Pieter Frederik van Os.Maria Margaretha van Os in the RKD Like her brothers, she was a pupil of her parents; her father was a landscape and still-life artist and her mother made pastel portraits.
