Peter Zijerveld
Peter Zijerveld (born 16 March 1955) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist and triathlete. He rode in one edition of the Tour de France and two editions of the Vuelta a España. In 1983 NIKE asked him to ride triathlons profesionally. He went to San Diego where he exchanged knowledge about cycling, learned how to swim (better) and bought an aerodynamic helmet. Back in the Netherlands he put his helmet on in the first triathlon he rode. Its package didn't have an instruction, so he put the helmet on backwards! 'We were all pioneers.' Vuelta A Andalucía
The Vuelta a Andalucía (Tour of Andalusia) or Ruta del Sol (Route of the Sun) is a regional Spanish road bicycle race first held in 1925. Since 2005, it has been a 2.1 category race on the UCI Europe Tour. The race became a part of the new UCI ProSeries in 2020. The nickname, Ruta del Sol, is in reference to the region's popular tourist coastline the Costa del Sol. Veenendaal () is a municipality and a town in central Netherlands, located in the province of Utrecht. Veenendaal is the only population centre within its administrative borders. The municipality had a population of 67.601 inhabitants on 1 january 2022 and covers an area of . 1981 Vuelta A España
The 36th Edition ''Vuelta a España'' (Tour of Spain), a long-distance bicycle stage race and one of the three grand tours, was held from 21 April to 10 May 1981. It consisted of 19 stages covering a total of , and was won by Giovanni Battaglin of the cycling team. Regis Clere won the prologue of the race and kept the leader's jersey until the mountain time trial where on the very long climb to Sierra Nevada, Giovanni Battaglin won the stage and took over the leader's jersey. The only threat to Battaglin's lead was Pedro Muñoz. The entire Teka team withdrew from the race withdrawing potential favourites Marino Lejarreta and Alberto Fernández. Battaglin and his Inoxpran team withstood the challenge from the Spanish and brought Battaglin to his first grand tour victory. Three days later after Battaglin's triumph in Spain, he began the 1981 Giro d'Italia which he would win becoming the second rider after Eddy Merckx to win the Vuelta-Giro double.
