Peter Whiting (rugby Union)
Peter John Whiting (born 6 August 1946) is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A Rugby union positions#Lock, lock, Whiting represented Auckland Rugby Football Union, Auckland at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, from 1971 to 1976, and was known as a superb lineout expert. He played 56 matches for the All Blacks including 20 internationals. Rugby Union Positions
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. The Auckland Rugby Union is a New Zealand provincial rugby union. The union was established in 1883 and was originally responsible for the administration of the sport in most of the former Auckland Province, although its boundaries have since shrunk to include only a portion of the Auckland urban area.
