Peter Tufford
E. Peter Tufford is a Canadian retired ice hockey center who was an All-American for Cornell. Career Tufford only managed to play a handful of games over two seasons for the St. Catharines Black Hawks. Despite the few appearances, he was recruited to Cornell University and played on an undefeated freshman team. He debuted for the varsity squad as a sophomore and hit the ground running, leading the team with 28 goals. Tufford helped Cornell win its first ECAC Championship that season and appear in the program's first NCAA Tournament. He assisted on the only goal in the semifinal and, despite being held scoreless, helped Cornell celebrate its first national championship two days later. Tufford became an alternate captain as a junior and increased his scoring output. Point (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss. Such a ranking system, implemented primarily to ensure a tie counted as a "half-win" for each team in the standings, is generally regarded as British and/or European in origin and as such adopted by the National Hockey League which was founded in Canada where leagues generally used ranking systems of British origin. American Hockey Coaches Association
The American Hockey Coaches Association was formed in 1947 in Boston. The founding members coached college ice hockey but membership has grown to include coaches at every level of the sport from youth hockey to professional ice hockey, although the organization maintains a focus on the collegiate game. Aside from its collaborative and community functions, the association also names several award winners each year, most significantly the college ice hockey All-Americans in both divisions and both genders. The 1968–69 NCAA University Division men's ice hockey season began in November 1968 and concluded with the 1969 NCAA University Division Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 15, 1969 at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This was the 22nd season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 75th year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. Wisconsin was admitted into the WCHA beginning with this season. Because they now played each of the other three Big Ten teams they were included into the informal conference standings. ECAC Hockey
ECAC Hockey is one of the six conferences that compete in NCAA Division I ice hockey. The conference used to be affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference, a consortium of over 300 colleges in the eastern United States. This relationship ended in 2004; however, the ECAC abbreviation was retained in the name of the hockey conference. ECAC Hockey is the only ice hockey conference with identical memberships in both its women's and men's divisions. The 1966–67 NCAA University Division men's ice hockey season began in November 1966 and concluded with the 1967 NCAA University Division Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 18, 1967 at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, New York. This was the 20th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 73rd year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. New Hampshire returned to a partial University Division schedule but still qualified for the lower-tier ECAC playoffs for this and the following season.
