Admiral Sir Peter Maxwell Stanford (11 July 1929 – 22 May 1991) was Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command. Naval career Stanford was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1948. Admiral Sir John Forster "Sandy" Woodward, (1 May 1932 – 4 August 2013) was a senior Royal Navy officer who commanded the Task Force of the Falklands War. Early life Woodward was born on 1 May 1932 at Penzance, Cornwall, to a bank clerk. He was educated at Stubbington House School, preparatory school in Stubbington, Hampshire. Desmond Cassidi
Admiral Sir Arthur Desmond Cassidi, (26 January 1925 – 10 October 2019) was a Royal Navy officer who served as Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command from 1983 to 1984. Naval career Cassidi joined the Royal Navy in 1938. Commissioned in 1943, he was promoted to sub-lieutenant in February 1944. He served in and with the Iceland Patrols and Russian Convoys during the Second World War and also took part in the Normandy landings. Cassidi was promoted to lieutenant in February 1946, and to lieutenant commander in October 1953. He became commanding officer of 820 Naval Air Squadron in 1954. Promoted to commander on 31 December 1956, he became the commanding officer of in 1960. William Staveley (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral of the Fleet Sir William Doveton Minet Staveley (10 November 1928 – 13 October 1997) was a Royal Navy officer. Staveley saw service as a minesweeper commander on coastal patrol during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation before commanding a frigate and then an aircraft carrier and ultimately achieving higher command in the Navy. He served as First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff in the late 1980s. In that role he fought hard for a fleet large enough to meet NATO commitments. Hambledon is a small village and civil parish in the county of Hampshire in England, situated about north of Portsmouth within the South Downs National Park. Hambledon is best known as the 'Cradle of Cricket'. It is thought that Hambledon Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs known, was formed about 1750. Hambledon was England's leading cricket club from about 1765 until the formation of MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) in 1787.
