Peter Mitchell (cyclist)
Peter Mitchell (born 12 January 1990 in London, England) is an English track cyclist, specialising in the individual and team sprints. In 2009, he was named in the Team Sky+ HD track cycling team alongside names such as Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendelton. In November 2012 it was announced that Mitchell was joining the British paralympic cycling squad as a pilot for the tandem events. Mitchell teamed up with Paralympic gold medallist and multiple world champion Neil Fachie for the 2013 British National Track Championships, where they were second in both the kilo time trial and the 200-metre flying start time trial for mixed blind/visually impaired competitors. In addition he scored a solo second place in the sprint, being defeated in the final by Jason Kenny. Fachie and Mitchell continued their partnership for the 2014 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Para-cycling (or Paracycling) is the sport of cycling (sport), cycling adapted for cyclists who have various disability, disabilities. It is governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). 2013 British National Track Championships
The 2013 British National Track Championships were a series of track cycling competitions held from 25 to 29 September 2013, at the Manchester Velodrome. They were organised and sanctioned by British Cycling, and were open to British cyclists. Competition Separate competitions were held for both men and women, and certain events were also included for paracyclists and juniors. No events were held in Women's Omnium or Men's Madison; otherwise the men's and women's programme was broadly identical, and matched the programme of the UCI World Track Cycling Championships, with the addition of a women's madison race. The women's team pursuit was held over 4000m for four cyclists for the first time following modifications to the event. Helen Scott (cyclist)
Helen Sarah Scott, (born 25 July 1990) is an English sprint cyclist. As well as competing as part of the Great Britain team Scott is also an able-bodied tandem cyclist, who since 2011 has acted as pilot for Paralympian Aileen McGlynn, Sophie Thornhill and Alison Patrick. Biography Scott was born in Birmingham, England in 1990. A keen sportsperson from a young age, her interest in cycling was sparked when her parents moved to Halesowen when she was 10, with Scott joining the local cycling club. Scott was accepted into University of Birmingham to study a degree in Sport, PE and Coaching Science in 2008. She only spent two weeks in Birmingham, leaving after being informed that she had been offered a place at British Cycling's Sprint Academy. British National Track Championships
The British National Track Championships are held annually and organised by British Cycling (formerly the British Cycling Federation). The main events are various track cycling disciplines for elite athletes to determine the British national champions. However, competitions are also held in age and disability categories. Until 1994 both amateur and professionals could take part in the 'Open' events, in addition to specific events that were restricted to either. UCI Juniors Track World Championships
The UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships (named the UCI Juniors Track World Championships before 2016) are a set of world championship events for junior riders, for various disciplines and distances in track cycling and are regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). In the period 2005–2009 the championships were part of the UCI Junior World Championships. Current events include: time trial, keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, points race, scratch race, sprint, team sprint, omnium and, for men only, madison. Women's events are shorter than men's. Barney Storey
Richard Barnaby "Barney" Storey MBE (born 13 March 1977) is a British cyclist. He rides as a sighted pilot for blind or partially sighted athletes in tandem track cycling events. He competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games and won three gold medals and a bronze. Storey has had Type 1 diabetes since the age of four. At the 2004 Summer Paralympics he participated in two tandem track cycling events, acting as the sighted pilot for Daniel Adam Gordon. The pair finished fourth in the sprint and fifth in the 1 km time trial. In 2005 he won the British national title for the 200 metres tandem sprint competing with Craig MacLean. Track Time Trial
The track time trial is a track cycling event where cyclists compete individually against the clock to record the fastest time over the specified distance from a standing start. Time trial bikes Track time trial bikes differ from normal track bikes in two major ways; firstly they have disc or 3–5 spoked wheels, and secondly they often use aero-bars to allow the rider to adopt a more aerodynamic riding position. The frames are often more streamlined to reduce air resistance.
