2013 British National Track Championships
The 2013 British National Track Championships were a series of track cycling competitions held from 25 to 29 September 2013, at the Manchester Velodrome. They were organised and sanctioned by British Cycling, and were open to British cyclists. Competition Separate competitions were held for both men and women, and certain events were also included for paracyclists and juniors. No events were held in Women's Omnium or Men's Madison; otherwise the men's and women's programme was broadly identical, and matched the programme of the UCI World Track Cycling Championships, with the addition of a women's madison race. The women's team pursuit was held over 4000m for four cyclists for the first time following modifications to the event. Open to British cyclists, the winners of each event are entitled to wear the national champion's jersey - a white jersey with a red, white and blue front stripe - for the next year when competing in that discipline. Joanna Rowsell
Joanna Katie Rowsell MBE (born 5 December 1988) is a retired English cyclist on the Great Britain Cycling Team who competed on track and road. Her greatest successes were the gold medals won in the women's team pursuit at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as five World Championship titles, four in the team pursuit (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014) plus one in the individual pursuit at the 2014 World Championships. She currently holds the World Record in the 3 km team pursuit. Rowsell first came to national prominence as a winner of junior national competitions in 2005/2006. Early life Rowsell was born in Carshalton, in the London Borough of Sutton. She competed for Sutton in the London Youth Games. Sky Track Cycling
Sky Track Cycling was a professional track cycling team competing in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics series. The team, based at the Manchester Velodrome, was made up of British riders, including Olympic Gold medalists Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, Victoria Pendleton and Jamie Staff. Sprint (cycling)
The sprint or match sprint is a track cycling event involving between two and four riders, though it is usually run as a one-on-one match race between opponents who, unlike in the individual pursuit, start next to each other. Men's sprint has been an Olympic event at every games except 1904 (which had races at seven different distances) and 1912 (which had no track cycling events). Women's sprints have been contested at every Olympics since 1988. Racing style Depending on the size of the velodrome, this event can be from 250 m to 1000 m. Unlike the Sprint (running), sprints in athletics (sport), athletics, these events do not usually start with riders sprinting from the starting line and they are not confined to lanes. Track Time Trial
The track time trial is a track cycling event where cyclists compete individually against the clock to record the fastest time over the specified distance from a standing start. Time trial bikes Track time trial bikes differ from normal track bikes in two major ways; firstly they have disc or 3–5 spoked wheels, and secondly they often use aero-bars to allow the rider to adopt a more aerodynamic riding position. The frames are often more streamlined to reduce air resistance. Rachel James
Rachel Sarah James (born 1988) is a Welsh racing cyclist specializing in track cycling. James, from Abergavenny, Wales, is the daughter of David James and Christine Harris, and has a younger sister, Becky, who is a world champion racing cyclist, and also has another two younger sisters; Ffion and Megan, and brother Gareth, who are all keen cyclists. Although Rachel is older than Becky, it was Becky who entered the sport first: she persuaded Rachel to take up cycling, with the hope of the pair representing Wales in the team sprint at the 2014 Commonwealth Games - however these hopes were dashed when the event was removed from the Glasgow games' schedule. Katy Marchant
Katy Marchant, (born 30 January 1993) is an elite British track cyclist who specialises in the sprint disciplines. She was educated at Brigshaw High School. Career Originally from Leeds, Marchant was based in Manchester after her switch to cycling in April 2013. Marchant began her sporting life as a heptathlete, and represented Great Britain in that event at the 2012 World Junior Championships. The switchover was instigated by her former coach, Toni Minichiello (best known for coaching Jessica Ennis), who suggested the move to cycling having seen the results of her power output on a Wattbike test. Edward Franklin Clancy (born 12 March 1985) is a British former professional track and road bicycle racer, who competed between 2004 and 2021. During his career, Clancy won four medals (three gold, one bronze) at the Summer Olympic Games, twelve medals (six gold, five silver and one bronze) at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, seven medals (five gold, two bronze) at the UEC European Track Championships, as well as a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Matthew "Matt" Nicholas Crampton (born 23 May 1986) is an English former track cyclist for . He was a member of British Cycling's Olympic Podium Programme, and represented Great Britain at a number of major events. Crampton specialised in track sprinting and competed in the individual sprint, team sprint, keirin and kilo events. Kian Emadi
Kian Emadi-Coffin (born 29 July 1992) is a former British track cyclist. He has represented Great Britain and England at international level, and is a three-time British National Track champion. Originally a sprinter, he transferred following injury to the endurance squad, and in 2018 won a gold medal as part of the team pursuit squad for Great Britain at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Career Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Emadi-Coffin started cycling competitively at the age of 13, and raced in many disciplines (track, road and cyclo-cross), before concentrating on the sprint disciplines of track racing.
