Peter Maddocks
Peter Maddocks (born 1 April 1928) is an English cartoonist. He has contributed to many of the United Kingdom's leading daily and Sunday national papers with cartoon series such as ''Four D. Jones'' in the Daily Express in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He has also created children's animated series for the BBC, including ''The Family-Ness'', ''Penny Crayon'', ''Jimbo and the Jet-Set'' and ''The Caribou Kitchen''. The ''Daily Express'' is a national daily United Kingdom middle-market newspaper printed in tabloid format. Published in London, it is the flagship of Express Newspapers, owned by publisher Reach plc. It was first published as a broadsheet in 1900 by Sir Arthur Pearson. Its sister paper, the ''Sunday Express'', was launched in 1918. In June 2022, it had an average daily circulation of 201,608. The paper rose to become the largest circulation newspaper in the world under Lord Beaverbrook, going from 2 million in the 1930s to 4 million in the 1940s. The Family-Ness
''The Family-Ness'' is a British cartoon series first produced in 1983. It was originally broadcast on BBC One from 5 October 1984 to 5 April 1985, with repeats airing throughout most of the 90s and early 00s, eventually ending with a short run on CBeebies on BBC Two in early 2002. It was created by Peter Maddocks of Maddocks Cartoon Productions. Maddocks later went on to produce ''Penny Crayon'' and ''Jimbo and the Jet Set'' in a similar style. Family-Ness was about the adventures of a family of Loch Ness Monsters and the MacTout family, particularly siblings Elspeth and Angus. The 'Nessies' could be called from the loch by the two children by means of their "thistle whistles". The series was followed with a large collection of merchandising including annuals, story books, character models and even a record. ''Penny Crayon'' is a 1989 British children's television series that tells the adventures of a very intellectual and well-meaning (but occasionally mischievous) school-girl from London who loves to draw, and her escapades accompanied by her best friend, Dennis. Using the magic crayons that she always carries with her, she brings everything that she ever draws to life, to either help them on their adventures or to get them out of tricky situations, and usually creating a world of chaos until it is either erased or washed away. ''Jimbo and the Jet-Set'' (often shortened to simply ''Jimbo'') is a British animation, animated cartoon series centered on the eponymous Jimbo, an anthropomorphic aeroplane. The series, created by Peter Maddocks and produced by Maddocks Cartoon Productions, aired for 25 episodes from 6 January 1986 until 6 February 1987. As stated in its premise, Jimbo was originally intended to be a Boeing 747, Jumbo Jet. However, as his designer had never known the difference between inches and centimetres, he resulted in his diminutive size. The series features various anthropomorphic airport ground vehicles: Tommy Tow-Truck, Claude Catering, Amanda Baggage, Phil the Fuel Truck, Sammy Steps and Harry Helicopter. ''The Caribou Kitchen'' is a 1995 CITV animated television series, aimed particularly at pre-school children, which is about an anthropomorphic caribou named Claudia who runs a restaurant in the fictional town of Barkabout which serves a number of talking animal guests, including Mrs Panda, Caroline the Cow, Gerald the Giraffe and Taffy the Tiger. The Moseley School of Art () on Moseley Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham, England was built as the first municipal branch School of Art in Birmingham.
