Peter Kildemand
Peter Kildemand (born 1 September 1989) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark. Career He is a member of the Danish national team. He was a member of the Swindon Robins Elite League Championship winning side of 2012 and was named "Rider of the Year" for the club at the end of the season. Kildemand was also part of the Fjelsted team that won the 2017 Danish Speedway League. He was captain of Västervik Speedway team in 2018. In 2022, he signed for King's Lynn Stars but was unable to race for them after sustaining a pre season injury. However, he later helped Smederna win the Swedish Speedway Team Championship during the 2022 campaign. Workington Comets
The Workington Comets are a British speedway club, based in Workington, Cumbria, racing out of the Northside Training Track. The team previously operated from 1970 to 2018 and were based at Derwent Park Stadium which they shared with Workington Town Rugby League Football Club. They were closed at the end of the 2018 SGB Championship season, but re-opened in 2022 and competed in the 2023 National Development League speedway season. History 1970–1987 The team's inaugural league season was the 1970 British League Division Two season in which they finished in 11th place. The team spent 12 years in Division 2, finishing 2nd in 1973 and 3rd in 1976. The 1987 season saw Glasgow Tigers based at Derwent Park. However the team changed its name to Workington Tigers soon afterwards but held their last fixture against Stoke on 31 July. The team's results were expunged. Denmark National Speedway Team
Denmark is one of the major teams in international speedway. They are managed by Denmark's most successful speedway rider, four time Individual World Champion Hans Nielsen and the current captain is Niels-Kristian Iversen. They have won the Speedway World Cup / Speedway World Team Cup a record 15 occasions with team manager Nielsen being a rider on 11 of those teams. Speedway World Cup The Denmark national speedway were a major force throughout the 1980s, winning a record 6 world titles in a row, between 1983 and 1988. They are currently one of the best teams in the world. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . The Speedway Ekstraliga ( en, Polish Extraleague, pl, Ekstraliga żużlowa) is the top division of motorcycle speedway in Poland. It has been called the "richest and most popular speedway league in the world", and attracts riders from all over the world. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The last edition was in 2017. From 2018, the World Cup was replaced by the Speedway of Nations, which effectively brought back the pairs format. However, in 2023 the World Cup will return. Format The final tournament usually lasted for about a week with four meetings held in six or seven days. It started with two first round "events", each consisting of four national teams. Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship is a speedway competition to determine the World Championship for national Under-21 teams. The sport's equivalent of the Under-21 World Cup in football, as of 2022 the title is awarded to the winners of SON2, the Under-21 division of the Speedway of Nations. The first edition of the competition was in 2005 prior to its incorporation with the Speedway of Nations. Poland has dominated the competition winning the title record 15 times. 2010 Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The 2010 Team Speedway Junior World Championship was the sixth FIM Team Under-21 World Championship season. The final took place on 5 September, 2010 at Rye House Stadium in Rye House, England. It was the first final in Great Britain. The Championship was won by Denmark, who beat Sweden, the defending champions Poland and host team Great Britain. 2016 Speedway Grand Prix Of Slovenia
The 2016 Slovenian FIM Speedway Grand Prix was the opening race of the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on April 30 at the Matija Gubec Stadium in Krško, Slovenia. Riders First reserve Fredrik Lindgren replaced Jarosław Hampel, who had injured himself during the 2015 Speedway World Cup and was not fit for the start of the 2016 season. The Speedway Grand Prix Commission also nominated Denis Štojs as the wild card, and Nick Škorja and Matic Ivačič both as Track Reserves. Results The Grand Prix was won by Peter Kildemand, who beat Jason Doyle, Chris Holder and defending world champion Tai Woffinden in the final. Kildemand therefore took an early lead in the world championship standings. Despite finishing third in the final, Holder was second in the standings after outscoring Doyle on the night. The 2015 Kjærgaard Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix was the seventh race of the 2015 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on August 8 at the CASA Arena in Horsens, Denmark. Riders First reserve Peter Kildemand replaced Jarosław Hampel, who had injured himself during the 2015 Speedway World Cup. The Speedway Grand Prix Commission also nominated Mikkel Michelsen as the wild card, and Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen and Anders Thomsen both as Track Reserves. Results The Grand Prix was won by Peter Kildemand, who beat Matej Žagar, Michael Jepsen Jensen and Tai Woffinden in the final. Maciej Janowski had initially top scored with 12 points during the qualifying rides, however he was eliminated in the semi-finals. After finishing fourth, Woffinden extended his overall lead over Nicki Pedersen to 13 points in the race for the world title. King's Lynn Stars
King's Lynn Stars are a motorcycle speedway team who compete in the SGB Premiership. The nickname "Stars" comes from the defunct Norwich Stars team. The team was founded in 1965 and has been running continually since then, except for 1996 when King's Lynn failed to have a team competing in the British league system. History 1966–1995 The team's inaugural season was the 1966 British League season, where they finished 16th. They managed to finish in third place during the 1972 and 1973 seasons with their strongest riders being Terry Betts and Malcolm Simmons. The first silverware won by the team was the Knockout Cup in 1977. They won the final by the small margin of two points on aggregate, thanks largely to Michael Lee and Betts. The team continued to compete in the highest division until the end of the 1995 season but failed to finish any higher than 4th place.
