Peter Kapschutschenko
Peter Kapschutschenko, also referred to as Petro Kapschutschenko or Pedro Enko; (1915-2006) was a Ukrainian and American avant-garde artist and sculptor. Among his many works are the bronze monuments of Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky and St. Olga of Kiev (1983 and 1987 respectively) which stand on the grounds of St. Andrew Memorial Church (South Bound Brook, New Jersey). Biography Kapschutschenko studied sculpture in his hometown at the Dinpropetrovsk Fine Arts Institute in Ukraine. In 1941, at the age of 26, he was taken to a forced labor camp in Germany during the Reichskommissariat Ukraine. After the war he remained in a Displaced Persons Camp in Regensburg, Germany until 1949, when he resettled in Argentina. Known as Pedro Enko in Argentina, Kapschutschenko continued making sculpture and was appointed Honorary Member of the "Universidad Libre de Humanidades de Buenos Aires" for his outstanding contributions to the culture of Argentina. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast ( uk, Дніпропетро́вська о́бласть, translit=Dnipropetrovska oblast), also referred to as Dnipropetrovshchyna ( uk, Дніпропетро́вщина), is an administrative divisions of Ukraine, oblast (province) of central-eastern Ukraine, the most important industrial region of the country. Ivan Mazepa
Ivan Stepanovych Mazepa (also spelled Mazeppa; uk, Іван Степанович Мазепа, pl, Jan Mazepa Kołodyński; ) was a Ukrainian military, political, and civic leader who served as the Hetman of Zaporizhian Host in 1687–1708. He was awarded a title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire in 1707 for his efforts for the Holy League. The historical events of Mazepa's life have inspired many literary, artistic and musical works. He was famous as a patron of the arts. Mazepa played an important role in the Battle of Poltava (1709), where after learning that Tsar Peter I intended to relieve him as acting Hetman (military leader) of Zaporozhian Host (a Cossack state) and to replace him with Alexander Menshikov, he defected from his army and sided with King Charles XII of Sweden. Ostroh
Ostroh ( uk, Остро́г; pl, Ostróg) is a historic city located in Rivne Oblast (province) of western Ukraine, on the Horyn River. Ostroh is the administrative center of the Ostroh Raion (district).
