Peter Hansford
Peter George Hansford is an English civil engineer. He served as the 146th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) (2010-2011) and succeeded Paul Morrell as the UK government's chief construction adviser in November 2012. Career Hansford studied civil engineering at the University of Nottingham, and then worked at Amey Roadstone Construction and Maunsell Consultations Asia in Hong Kong. He later joined the Nichols Group, working as engineering manager for London's Docklands Light Railway City extension and Beckton extension projects (1989-1992). He also has a MBA from Cranfield University. Hansford is a Fellow of the ICE and of the Association for Project Management, and chaired the ICE's expert panel contributing to the UK government's Low Carbon Construction IGT report (2010), a key building block of the industry reforms started by Morrell. This is a list of presidents of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The president's role is to represent the institution and to promote the profession to the public. The first president was Thomas Telford who had the office bestowed upon him for life in recognition of his contributions to the civil engineering profession. It became a biennial office with the election of William Cubitt, Sir William Cubitt in 1849 and an annual office with the election of George Berkley (engineer), Sir George Berkley in 1891, which it has remained since. On 18 December 1956 Harold Gourley died just six weeks after assuming the office in November. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is a non-departmental public body of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, formed by the Energy Act 2004. It evolved from the Coal and Nuclear Liabilities Unit of the Department of Trade and Industry. It came into existence during late 2004, and took on its main functions on 1 April 2005. Its purpose is to deliver the decommissioning and clean-up of the UK's civil nuclear legacy in a safe and cost-effective manner, and where possible to accelerate programmes of work that reduce hazard. The NDA does not directly manage the UK's nuclear sites. It oversees the work through contracts with specially designed companies known as site licence companies.
