Peter Hampton
Peter John Hampton (12 September 195425 September 2020) was an English footballer who played as a left back in the Football League for Leeds United, Stoke City, Burnley, Rochdale and Carlisle United. Career Hampton was born in Oldham and almost joined Manchester City on junior terms before his family moved to Bishop Auckland when he was ten years old. He joined Leeds United in September 1971, having played at international level with England Schools. He made his professional debut at the end of the 1972–73 season but struggled to get back into the side due to the form of Terry Cooper, Trevor Cherry and Frank Gray. Hampton spent the next three seasons in the reserves, making few appearances in the first team, but was an unused substitute in the 1975 European Cup Final. He finally had a run in the side in 1976–77, playing in 36 matches, but he was unable to hold on to his place and joined Stoke City in August 1980 for a fee of £175,000. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Joe Peter White (born 1 October 2002) is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for League Two side Crewe Alexandra, on loan from Newcastle United. Club career Born in Carlisle, White began his career at hometown club Carlisle United before moving to Newcastle United in 2016. He signed on loan for Hartlepool United in January 2022. On 5 February 2022, White made his Hartlepool debut as a substitute in a 2–0 FA Cup defeat to Premier League side Crystal Palace. In February 2022 Hartlepool manager Graeme Lee said he wanted to sign White permanently. After a number of appearances for the club, White was injured in March 2022. On 6 January 2023, White signed for League One club Exeter City on loan until the end of the 2022–23 season. Cumberland Infirmary is a hospital in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. It is managed by the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. History The original Cumberland Infirmary is a Grade II* listed building which was designed by Richard Tattersall and constructed by Messrs Robinson and Bennet, contractors of Preston, between 1830 and 1832. A new wing was opened by the Countess of Lonsdale in October 1911. The founder of the Roper-Logan-Tierney nursing process, Nancy Roper, worked as senior nurse tutor at the hospital in the 1950s. A further extension was opened by Princess Anne in 1975. The present Cumberland Infirmary was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract in 1997, the first hospital to be bond financed. Turf Moor
Turf Moor is an association football stadium in Burnley, Lancashire, England, which has been the home of Burnley F.C. since 1883. This unbroken service makes Turf Moor the second-longest continuously used ground in English professional football. The stadium is situated on Harry Potts Way, named after the manager who won the 1959–60 First Division with the club, and has a capacity of 21,944. The Turf Moor site has been used for sporting activities since at least 1843, when Burnley Cricket Club moved to the area. In 1883, they invited Burnley F.C. to use a pitch adjacent to the cricket field. The first grandstand was not built until 1885, while terraces were also added to each end of the ground in the same year. Between the mid-1950s and mid-1970s, all stands were rebuilt. Bill Asprey
William Asprey (born 11 September 1936) is an English former football player and manager. A defender, he made 418 league appearances in a 15-year career in the Football League. He then had a 25-year career as a coach. He spent 1953 to 1965 at Stoke City, making 341 appearances in all competitions. He helped the "Potters" to the Second Division title in 1962–63, and also played in the 1964 League Cup final. He spent 1965 to December 1967 at Oldham Athletic, before he was sold to Port Vale for a £2,000 fee. He left the "Valiants" in December 1968 to become a full-time coach. He coached at various clubs across the world, as well as the national teams of Rhodesia and Syria, but was given his first chance as a manager in England at Oxford United in July 1979. He was not overly successful, and was sacked in December 1980. Victoria Ground
The Victoria Ground was the home ground of Stoke City from 1878 until 1997, when the club relocated to the Britannia Stadium after 119 years. At the time of its demolition it was the oldest operational ground in the Football League. History The Victoria Ground had been Stoke City's home since March 1878 and the first match was a friendly against Talke Rangers on 28 March 1878, Stoke won 1–0 before 2,500 spectators. The ground took its name from the nearby Victoria Hotel and was originally an oval shape, built to accommodate a running track and used by the local athletic club. There was an open grass bank at each end, and a small but compact wooden stand on the east side (Boothen Road) capable of housing 1,000 people. Opposite this stand was another bank which could hold 4,000. The ground remained this way for 30 years during which time Stoke had become members of the Football League.
