Peter Culley
Peter Culley (1958–2015) was a Canadian poet and photographer living in Nanaimo at the time of his death. Nanaimo
Nanaimo ( ) is a city on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. As of the Canada 2021 Census, 2021 census, it had a population of 99,863, and it is known as "The Harbour City." Stan Douglas
Stan Douglas (born October 11, 1960) is an artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Douglas' film and video installations, photography and work in television frequently touch on the history of literature, cinema and music, while examining the "failed utopia" of modernism and obsolete technologies. He has exhibited internationally, including Documenta IX, 1992, Documenta X, 1997, Documenta XI, 2002 and the Venice Biennale in 1990, 2001, 2005 and 2019. Douglas was chosen to represent Canada in the 2021 Venice Biennale. Roy Arden
Roy Arden (born 1957) is a Canadian artist, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He also creates sculpture from found objects, oil paintings, graphite drawings and collage, and curates and writes on contemporary art. Career Arden graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design with a bachelor degree in Photography and Interdisciplinary Studies in 1982 and with an M.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1990. In the early part of his career, Arden made straightforward Cibachrome images of the contemporary urban scene which he called "Fragments", then made what he called "meta-photography", archival image diptychs. In the 1990s, he made colour photographs of what he termed the "landscape of economy" that depicted the city of Vancouver and its rapid growth. Kelly Wood (artist)
Kelly Wood (born 1962) is a Canadian visual artist and photographer from Toronto, Ontario. Wood’s artistic practice is primarily based in Vancouver, B.C. and London, Ontario. Education Wood obtained a diploma from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1988 and an M.F.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1996. While studying at the University of British Columbia, Wood was advised by Vancouver School artists Jeff Wall and Ian Wallace. Geoffrey Farmer
Geoffrey Farmer (born 1967) is best known for extensive multimedia installations made of cut-out images which form collages. Life Early career Farmer was born on Eagle Island, BC in 1967. His career as an artist was unplanned, but he attended an art class with his sister when he was 21 and became interested. He received his art training at the San Francisco Art Institute (1991-1992) and Emily Carr University (1993). Art practice Geoffrey Farmer creates installation-based artworks to create intersections of personal and lived experiences. The Kootenay School of Writing (KSW) is a Vancouver-based writers' collective. Founded in 1984 after the forced closure of David Thompson University Centre in Nelson, British Columbia KSW relocated to Vancouver to offer inexpensive courses (in writing, editing, and publishing), to sponsor colloquia and critical talks on writing, visual art, and politics, and to host a reading series with local, Canadian, and international writers, and to continue publishing Writing magazine.
