Peter Barry (hurler)
Peter Joseph Barry (born 24 November 1974) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Kilkenny, Barry first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of nineteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 1996 championship. Barry later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team, Barry won one Railway Cup medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level he is a one-time All-Ireland-winning captain with James Stephens. In addition to this he has also won two Leinster medals and two championship medals. James Stephens is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1887 and has enjoyed equal success in both hurling and Gaelic football. The school was founded in 1860 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers for a sum of £3000. is very influential in the Kilkenny community and sets an example for the other schools in Kilkenny. History The Irish Christian Brothers came to Kilkenny in 1860. Five years before this a meeting was held between the Chairmanship of the Lord Mayor as requested by the then Bishop of Ossory. The assembly decided to raise funds to build the school and invited the Christian Brothers, led by Edmund Ignatius Rice to aid the cause. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. O'Loughlin Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the St. John’s parish of Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1969, replacing the St. John’s Hurling Club that started back in 1887. Kilmoganny GAA
Kilmoganny GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilmoganny, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of Gaelic football. It is a sister club of Dunnamaggin. History Located in the village of Kilmoganny in south Kilkenny, Kilmoganny Whites and Blues, as the club was then known, was founded in November 1896. The club spent much of its existence competing in the lower grades, and enjoyed its first success in 1954 when the Kilkenny JFC title was won. A number of Special JFC titles were won in the 1980s, however, it would by 40 years before Kilmoganny won a second Kilkenny JFC title in 1994. The Kilkenny Senior Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the J. J. Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny SFC) is an annual club Gaelic football competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Kilkenny Gaelic football. Introduced in 1887 as the Kilkenny Football Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams. The championship has gone through a number of changes throughout the years, including the use of a round robin, before reverting to a straight knockout format. Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Fitzgibbon Cup
The Fitzgibbon Cup ( ga, Corn Mhic Giobúin) is the trophy for the premier hurling championship among higher education institutions (universities, colleges and institutes of technology) in Ireland. The Fitzgibbon Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Comhairle Ard Oideachais also oversees the Ryan Cup (tier 2 hurling championship), the Fergal Maher Cup (tier 3 hurling championship) and the Padraig MacDiarmada (tier 4 hurling championship). The GAA Higher Education Cups are sponsored by Electric Ireland.
