Peter Baker (golfer)
Peter Alan Baker (born 7 October 1967) is an English professional golfer. He had three wins on the European Tour, one in 1988 and two in 1993. He represented Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup. Amateur career Baker learned golf at his father's nine-hole Himley Hall course and was taught by Sandy Lyle's father Alex. In 1985, he was the joint winner of the Brabazon Trophy, after a tie with Roger Roper. He represented Great Britain & Ireland in the 1985 Walker Cup and turned professional the following year. Professional career Baker was a consistent performer on the European Tour from the late 1980s until the early years of the new Millennium, with three tournament wins on the tour and a highest Order of Merit finish of seventh in 1993. Shifnal
Shifnal is a market town and civil parish in Shropshire, England, about east of Telford, 17 miles (27 km) east of the county town of Shrewsbury and 13 miles (20 km) west-northwest of the city of Wolverhampton. Ian Woosnam
Ian Harold Woosnam (born 2 March 1958) is a Welsh professional golfer. Nicknamed 'Woosie', Woosnam was one of the "Big Five" generation of European golfers, all born within 12 months of one another, all of whom have won majors, and made Europe competitive in the Ryder Cup. His peers in this group were Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, and Sandy Lyle. Woosnam's major championship win was at the 1991 Masters Tournament. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. 1993 European Tour
The 1993 European Tour, titled as the 1993 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 22nd official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 38 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and five non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Scotland's Colin Montgomerie for the first time, overtaking Nick Faldo with victory in the season ending Volvo Masters. Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo, (born 18 July 1957) is an English retired professional golfer and television commentator. A top player of his era, renowned for his dedication to the game, he was ranked No. 1 on the Official World Golf Ranking for a total of 97 weeks. The Benson & Hedges International Open was a men's professional golf tournament which was played in England. It was founded in 1971 and for its first five years it was called the Benson & Hedges Festival of Golf. It was sponsored by Benson & Hedges, a cigarette company. The 1988 European Tour, titled as the 1988 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 17th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It marked the beginning of a long association for the tour with Swedish car maker Volvo, who became the tour's first official title sponsor. Carris Trophy
The Carris Trophy is the English Boys Under 18 Open Amateur Stroke-Play Championship. It was founded in 1935. History The event was founded as a boys' golf tournament in 1935 at the Moor Park Golf Club by Austin Carris. The competition was adopted in 1988 by the English Golf Union as the English Boys Under 18 Open Amateur Stroke-Play Championship. It is now played at various venues around England, but returns to Moor Park at five year intervals reflecting the inauguration of the trophy at this course. The 36th Ryder Cup Matches were held 22–24 September 2006 in Ireland at the Palmer Course of the K Club in Straffan, County Kildare, west of Dublin. James Kingston
James Hubert Kingston (born 30 November 1965) is a South African professional golfer. Career Kingston was born in Ottosdal, South Africa. He turned professional in 1988, and is currently a member of the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. He has also competed on the Asian Tour, where he collected four tournament victories. In 2007, Kingston finished top of the Order of Merit on the Sunshine Tour, aided by his victory at the European Tour co-sanctioned South African Airways Open. José-Filipe Lima
José-Filipe Lima (born Philippe Lima; November 26, 1981) is a Portuguese professional golfer. He won the 2004 Aa St Omer Open to gain a place on the European Tour. His best seasons were from 2005 to 2007 when he finished in the top-100 on the European Tour Order of Merit. Successful Challenge Tour seasons in 2009, 2013 and 2016 have promoted him back to the European Tour but, on each occasion he has failed to retain his place on the tour.
