Defenders Of The Homeland
''Pembela Tanah Air'' (abbreviated PETA; ) or was an Indonesian volunteer army established on 3 October 1943 in Indonesia by the occupying Japanese. The Japanese intended PETA to assist their forces in opposing a possible invasion by the Allies. By the end of the war, there were a total of 69 battalions (''daidan'') in Java (around 37,000 men) and Sumatra (approximately 20,000 men). On 17 August 1945, the day after the Indonesian Declaration of Independence, the Japanese ordered the PETA ''daidan'' to surrender and hand over their weapons, which most of them did. The Indonesian Republic's newly declared President, Sukarno, supported the dissolution rather than turn the organisation into a national army as he feared allegations of collaboration had he allowed a Japanese-created militia to continue to exist.Ricklefs (1981), p. 194Sunhaussen (1982), pp. 2–4Bachtiar(1988), p. 12 During the Indonesian National Revolution, former PETA officers and troops, such as Suharto and Sud ...

People Eating Tasty Animals
''People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals v. Doughney'', 263 F.3d 359 (4th Cir. 2001), was an important Internet domain trademark infringement decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. The ruling became an early precedent on the nature of domain names as both trademarked intellectual property and free speech. Background In 1995, Michael Doughney registered the domain name peta.org for his website titled "People Eating Tasty Animals".McCullagh, Declan (August 25, 2001)"Ethical Treatment of PETA Domain". ''Wired''. The website contained links to over 30 sites including some that promoted the sale of leather goods and meats. At the bottom of the page, the website inquired "Feeling lost? Offended? Perhaps you should, like, ''exit immediately''" and provided a link to the official People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) website,''People for Ethical Treatment of Animals v. Doughney''263 F. 3d 359(4th Cir., 2001). which due to Doughney's act ...

Pulse Ejector Thrust Augmentor
A Pulse Ejector Thrust Augmentor or PETA is a proprietary pulse jet engine developed by Boeing. The Boeing PETA design embeds the pulse jet inside a thrust augmenting duct which entrains surrounding air into the exhaust stream. This entrained air improves thrust and cools the pulse jet. Boeing may use the PETA in its Light Aerial Multi-purpose Vehicle (LAMV) Future Combat System. Advantages *The pulse jet engine's ability to be almost instantly throttled, with spoolup/spooldown time from minimum to max thrust and vice versa of around of 1–1,5 seconds, and startup and shutdown times of less than five seconds, would be advantageous in a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, where quick response to control input is useful. *The ability to provide upward thrust and thus decouple vertical and axial movement of the aircraft. *Valveless pulse jet engines are insensitive to sand and small debris. *The engine's thrust augmenters can be incorporated as load bearing structures in ...

Peta-
A metric prefix is a unit prefix that precedes a basic unit of measure to indicate a multiple or submultiple of the unit. All metric prefixes used today are decadic. Each prefix has a unique symbol that is prepended to any unit symbol. The prefix ''kilo-'', for example, may be added to ''gram'' to indicate ''multiplication'' by one thousand: one kilogram is equal to one thousand grams. The prefix ''milli-'', likewise, may be added to ''metre'' to indicate ''division'' by one thousand; one millimetre is equal to one thousandth of a metre. Decimal multiplicative prefixes have been a feature of all forms of the metric system, with six of these dating back to the system's introduction in the 1790s. Metric prefixes have also been used with some non-metric units. The SI prefixes are metric prefixes that were standardised for use in the International System of Units (SI) by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in resolutions dating from 1960 to 2022. Since 2009, the ...

The Battle of Peta or Battle of Petta was fought between the Greeks (with Philhellenes) led by Alexandros Mavrokordatos with Markos Botsaris and the Ottomans led by Omer Vrioni on 16 July 1822 (4 July Julian calendar). Cambridge, 2002, , p. 108. "The battle of Peta, one of the few actual field battles between the Greeks and the Turks in the War of Independence, was fought in 1822 on a hillside near the Epirote village of Peta and resulted in the large-scale and traumatic defeat of the Philhellenes' Battalion." Background After the Souliotes defeated the forces of Khourshid Pasha in May and June 1822, they joined Prince Alexander Mavrocordatos who landed at Missolonghi with a contingent of Greek regulars. Peta (cat)
Manninagh KateDhu, commonly known as Peta (1963/64 – early 1980), was the Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom government between 1964 and , and was the first female cat in that role. She became the replacement of Peter III, who had died at the age of 16 in 1964. After Peter III's death, the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man, Sir Ronald Garvey, suggested that a Manx cat be his replacement, and sent Peta to the Cabinet. She was noted to be lazy and loud, and not toilet trained. By 1969, some civil servants had tried to remove her from Cabinet, but this did not happen, because of the suspected bad publicity that this action would incur. She was not heard of again, until a reply to a member of the public in 1976 revealed that she had retired to the home of a civil servant. Her successor was Wilberforce, who became the next Chief Mouser in the 1970s. See also * List of individual cats This is a list of famous cats which achieved some degree of popularit ...
