Pestova (archaeological Site)
''Part of a series of articles upon Archaeology of Kosovo'' Pestova archaeological site is a archaeological site located in the village Pestova, in the municipality of Vushtrri, on the left side, stretched along the Pristina-Kosovska Mitrovica road, more or less 4 km from Vushtrri. The area is known for a very fertile agricultural land, productive even in present days. History During the work carried out in 2005 in Pestova, accidentally some wall contours were discovered. Therefore, a rescue excavation was initiated, which resulted with interesting archaeological findings. On this occasion, remains of a building, ruins of a villae rusticae were partially unearthed. Villa Rustica (Pestova)
Villa rustica () was the term used by the ancient Romans to denote a farmhouse or villa set in the countryside and with an agricultural section, which applies to the vast majority of Roman villas. In some cases they were at the centre of a large agricultural estate, sometimes called a '' latifundium''. The adjective ''rustica'' was used only to distinguish it from a much rarer sub-urban resort villa, or '' otium villa'' built for purely leisure and luxury, and typically located in the Bay of Naples. The ''villa rustica'' would thus serve both as a residence of the landowner and his family (and servants) and also as a farm management centre. It would often comprise separate buildings to accommodate farm labourers and sheds and barns for animals and crops. Dardania (Roman Province)
Dardania (; grc, Δαρδανία; la, Dardania) was a Roman province in the Central Balkans, initially an unofficial region in Moesia (87–284), and then a province administratively part of the Diocese of Moesia (293–337). It was named after the tribe of the Dardani who inhabited the region in classical antiquity prior to the Roman conquest. Background Dardania is named after the Dardani, a tribe that lived in the region and formed the Kingdom of Dardania in the 4th century BC. The eastern parts of the region were at the Thraco-Illyrian contact zone. The strategic position of the region of Mitrovica in the middle of two great rivers Ibar and Sitnica and its mineral wealth in Albanik (Monte Argentarum), made this location populated since prehistoric period.
