Peruvian Football League System
The Peruvian football league system is a complex system. Though the general outline includes the Liga 1, Liga 2 and Copa Perú. The Copa Perú is very large involving several stages and leagues within it. In addition, the Copa Perú is played within a year. Therefore, clubs who reach level 3 of the pyramid (National stage of the Copa Perú) will have climbed 4 levels in a one-year period. Peruvian Football Federation
The Peruvian Football Federation ( es, Federación Peruana de Futbol or ) is the body that governs Association football in Peru. It was founded on August 23, 1922, and affiliated in 1924. A member of CONMEBOL since 1925, it directly oversees the Peru national football team, the Copa Federación, and the amateur leagues. It is indirectly involved in the organization of the Primera División (today Torneo Descentralizado), the Peruvian Primera División Femenina and Segunda División. It is headquartered in the Villa Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA) on Aviación Avenue 2085 in San Luis, Lima. This is a non-exhaustive list of football (soccer), football clubs in Peru with the current 19 first division teams, and 13 second division teams. The Copa Perú has variable number of teams from the rest of the country. In 2016, more than 33,000 teams entered the competition in its different stages. Ligas Superiores Del Peru
The Ligas Superiores was one of two leagues that formed part of the Departamental Stage in the Copa Perú of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) football league system. The other league at level was the Ligas Departamentales. A transcendental step was given in the Copa Perú with the official establishment of the Ligas Superiores which did not become as successful as expected. Format The Ligas Superiores were composed of a select group of clubs of each department. The champion and runner-up from each league automatically qualifies to their department's Liga Departamental. History The Ligas Superiores were officially created in 2009. In 2009, nine the Departmental Federations determined to adopt them: Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Lambayeque, Pasco, Piura, Puno and Tumbes. Peruvian Torneo Zonal
The Torneo Zonal, the second division of Peruvian football (soccer) in 1992, was played by 37 teams. the tournament winner, Ovación Sipesa was promoted to the 1992 Torneo Descentralizado's Hexagonal Final and 1993 Torneo Descentralizado. The tournament was played on a home-and-away round-robin basis. Peruvian División Intermedia (1984–1987)
The División Intermedia, the second division of Peruvian football (soccer) in 1984 until 1987. The tournament was played on a home-and-away round-robin basis. History Intermedia was a promotion championship in Peru between the First Division as a superior category and the Second Division and Copa Perú as lower categories. It was developed during the system of Regional Championships between 1984 and 1987. As the First Division was divided into four zones: North, Center, South and Metropolitan. In the first three participated the worst of the respective zone in the First Division against teams from the Copa Peru. The best of each zone classified the First Division the following year while the rest returned to the Copa Peru. Peruvian Segunda División
The Liga 2 (Ligue 2) of Peru is the second-highest division in the Peruvian football league system. It is a professional and promotional division organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. After years of changing numbers of clubs, as of 2021 the league includes 12 clubs. History The format of the Second Division has changed over the years. For decades after it was first formed in 1936, only clubs from the Lima Region, Department of Lima participated in the annual tournament. Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch.
