Perry Township, Marion County, Indiana
Perry Township is one of the nine townships of Marion County, Indiana, United States, located in the south central part of the county. It was laid out in 1822 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and named after Oliver Hazard Perry – a War of 1812 hero. The township population was 108,972 at the 2010 census. This includes the largest community of Burmese-Americans in the United States, numbering over 24,000. Through the White River, Perry and Decatur townships share the only water boundary among Marion County's townships. University Heights is a neighborhood area located on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It is adjacent to the University of Indianapolis and contains the southern portion of the campus. Southport, Indiana
Southport is an excluded city in Marion County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,712 at the 2010 census. History The area that is now known as Southport was a wooded area until the first European American settlers arrived in the 1820s. Early settlers included Jacob Smock and Randall Litzey in 1822, Samuel Brewer in 1823, Benjamin McFarland in 1826, and Samuel and Mary Bryan in 1828. Mary Bryan is remembered as one of the first European American women to cross the Cumberland Mountains. By 1828 Southport was a stagecoach stop on the Madison-Indianapolis road. Perry Meridian High School is a high school in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is one of two public high schools serving grades nine through twelve in the Perry Township, along with Southport High School. Enrollment surpassed 2,350 students during the 2019-2020 school year, with Asian, African-American, Hispanic and multi-racial students making up a slight majority of the high school population.
