Perowne Camp
Perowne Barracks is a former British Army barracks in Hong Kong. The barracks are no longer in military use. History The barracks, which were established as Tai Lam Military Camp in 1931, were subsequently renamed Perowne Barracks after Major General Lancelot Perowne, Major General of the Brigade of Gurkhas, who were based there. The barracks closed in 1994 as part of the withdrawal of British military presence prior to the handover of sovereignty in 1997. They were then used in the 1990s as living accommodation for Lingnan College, as a training school for the Immigration Department and more recently by the Crossroads Foundation Crossroads Foundation is a non-profit charity based in Hong Kong which connects those with resources and those who need help. MacLehose Trail
The MacLehose Trail is a 100-kilometre hiking trail that crosses much of the New Territories, Hong Kong, starting from Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung District in the east to Tuen Mun Town, Tuen Mun District in the west. The path is marked by distance posts at 500-metre intervals. The trail is named after Murray MacLehose, Baron MacLehose of Beoch, the longest-serving governor of Hong Kong, who established the Country Parks and was himself an enthusiastic hiker. The trail passes through a variety of natural scenery including beaches and mountains. The MacLehose Trail starts in Pak Tam Chung, then weaves its way anticlockwise around the Sai Kung peninsula. It then hugs the Sai Kung district border with Sha Tin, until it meets the mountains separating Kowloon and the New Territories. A Nissen hut is a prefabricated steel structure for military use, especially as barracks, made from a half-cylindrical skin of corrugated iron. Cafeteria New Beach
Golden Beach () is located at the 18 milestone of Castle Peak Road in So Kwun Wat, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is contiguous with the adjacent Cafeteria New Beach and Cafeteria Old Beach. Tai Tong is an area southwest of Shap Pat Heung, in Yuen Long District, in the northwestern part of Hong Kong. Tai Tong Village or Tai Tong Tsuen () is located in the area. Administration Tai Tong Tsuen is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. Features Tai Tong is famous for its Lychee mountain. Trailwalker or Oxfam Trailwalker and the related Trailtrekker are fundraising endurance events conducted across the world by Oxfam, in which teams of four competitors must complete a course of in a set time limit - typically between 24 and 48 hours. The routes may be point-to-point or follow a circular route returning to the start. History The event was established in 1981 by Brigadier Mervyn Lee in Hong Kong as a training exercise by the Queen's Gurkha Signals, part of the Brigade of Gurkhas of the British Army, which was at the time based in the British colony. In 1986, teams of civilians were allowed to take part and Oxfam Hong Kong was invited to co-organise the event.
