Perito ( Cilentan: ''Prito'') is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. As of 2011 its population was of 1,007. History In the Middle Ages Perito had an important role as fortified town in control of the valleys below. From 1801 to 1860 it was a hamlet of Orria, then it became an independent municipality. Geography Perito is a hill town located in Cilento, included into its national park. The municipal territory, partly crossed by Alento river, borders with Cicerale, Lustra, Monteforte Cilento, Orria, Prignano Cilento, Rutino and Salento. It counts a single hamlet (''frazione''): Ostigliano (pop.: 431). Ostigliano
Ostigliano is a southern Italian village and the only hamlet (''frazione'') of Perito, a municipality in the province of Salerno, Campania. As of 2011, its population was 431. History The village, whose toponym comes from the Latin word ''Hostilius'', was settled since the Middle Ages. Its main church, dedicated to John the Baptist, was built during the 16th century. Geography Located in central-northern Cilento and transcluded into its national park, Ostigliano spans above a hill, on a ridge between the valley and the reservoir of Alento river, and the nearby hilltown of Perito (6 km far). It is 7.7 km far from Piano Vetrale, 8 from Orria, 10 from Rutino, 14 from Cicerale, 19 from Agropoli; and 4 from the exit "Perito" of the national highway SS18/var. Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park (Italian language, Italian ''Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni'') is an List of National Parks of Italy, Italian national park in the Province of Salerno, in Campania in southern Italy. A ''frazione'' (plural: ) is a type of subdivision of a ''comune'' (municipality) in Italy, often a small village or hamlet outside the main town. Most ''frazioni'' were created during the Fascist era (1922–1943) as a way to consolidate territorial subdivisions in the country. In the autonomous region of the Aosta Valley, a ''frazione'' is officially called an ''hameau'' in French. Description Typically the term ''frazioni'' applies to the villages surrounding the main town (''capoluogo'') of a ''comune''. Rutino
Rutino is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of southwestern Italy. It is in the geographic region Cilento. Politic geography The comune is divided into Rutino, the principal city, and the "frazione" of Rutino Scalo. It borders Lustra, Perito, Prignano Cilento, Torchiara. The two most important cities near Rutino are Agropoli and Vallo della Lucania. Physical geography Rutino is the agricultural center of the lower Cilento, on the right side of the middle valley dell'Alento, on a spur of the hill on top of which stands the castle of Rocca Cilento. Prignano Cilento
Prignano Cilento is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. As of 2017 its population was of 1,035. Geography Location Prignano is located in northern Cilento and borders with the municipalities of Agropoli (10 km west), Cicerale, Ogliastro Cilento (4 km north), Perito, Rutino and Torchiara. In the eastern edge of its territory is located the Alento River dam and reservoir, shared with Perito and Cicerale municipal territories. ''Frazioni'' It counts the hamlets of (''frazioni'') Melito and San Giuliano; and the rural localities of Acquabona, Alento, Selva and Serre. The Alento is a river in southwestern Italy. Originating from Le Corne mountain, nearby the village of Gorga, it flows in the Campanian territory of Cilento, in the Province of Salerno.
