''Peripeteia'' is the third full-length album by the black metal band Anagnorisis. The title refers to concept described by Aristotle, peripeteia, which is also connected to the origin of the group's name, the concept of anagnorisis. The album was recorded and produced by the band and principal guitarist, Zak Denham. Anagnorisis (band)
Anagnorisis is a black metal band from Louisville, Kentucky. They have released two demos, three full-length albums, and two EPs. Overview Anagnorisis was formed in 2003 by Austin Lunn as a solo project, adding bassist Zachary Kerr, drummer Adam Pierce, and guitarist Zak Denham before releasing the ''Overton Trees Sampler'' in 2005. The band signed to Shiven Records in 2007, whereupon they released their first full-length, ''Overton Trees'', in November of the same year. Lunn exited the band in 2008, leaving to form Panopticon, and the band added vocalist Nathan Bowling to the line-up. After several tours in 2008 and 2009, Bowling and drummer Adam Pierce both left the band. The band also released ''Alpha & Omega'', a three-song EP, in early 2009, with Bowling handling vocal duties. Black Metal
Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include Tempo#Beats per minute, fast tempos, a Screaming (music)#Black metal, shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted Electric guitar, guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (Lo-fi music, lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms. During the 1980s, several thrash metal and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. Aristotle
Aristotle (; grc-gre, Ἀριστοτέλης ''Aristotélēs'', ; 384–322 BC) was a Greek philosopher and polymath during the Classical period in Ancient Greece. Taught by Plato, he was the founder of the Peripatetic school of philosophy within the Lyceum and the wider Aristotelian tradition. Peripeteia
Peripeteia ( el, περιπέτεια) is a reversal of circumstances, or turning point. The term is primarily used with reference to works of literature; its anglicized form is peripety. Aristotle's view Aristotle, in his ''Poetics'', defines peripeteia as "a change by which the action veers round to its opposite, subject always to our rule of probability or necessity." According to Aristotle, peripeteia, along with discovery, is the most effective when it comes to drama, particularly in a tragedy. He wrote that "The finest form of Discovery is one attended by Peripeteia, like that which goes with the Discovery in Oedipus...". Anagnorisis
Anagnorisis (; grc, ἀναγνώρισις) is a moment in a play or other work when a character makes a critical discovery. Anagnorisis originally meant recognition in its Greek context, not only of a person but also of what that person stood for. Anagnorisis was the hero's sudden awareness of a real situation, the realisation of things as they stood, and finally, the hero's insight into a relationship with an often antagonistic character in Aristotelian tragedy. Tragedy In his ''Poetics'', as part of his discussion of peripeteia, Aristotle defined anagnorisis as "a change from ignorance to knowledge, producing love or hate between the persons destined by the poet for good or bad fortune" (1452a).
