Perepelkin (lunar Crater)
Perepelkin is a lunar impact crater that is located just to the south of the similar crater Love. Attached to the exterior of its southern rim is the smaller Shirakatsi. Less than one crater diameter to the east-northeast is Lane, and to the west-southwest are the co-joined Danjon and D'Arsonval. The rim of this crater is relatively heavily eroded, and is similar in appearance to Love to the north. Along the western inner wall is an odd, pear-shaped crater that is probably a merge of two impacts. There is a short chain of small craters along the southwestern inner wall. The floor is pitted by tiny impacts, but is relatively level compared to the surrounding terrain. There is a small central peak at the midpoint that has a ridge extension to the southeast. Apollo 17 (December 7–19, 1972) was the final mission of NASA's Apollo program, the most recent time humans have set foot on the Moon or traveled beyond low Earth orbit. Commander Gene Cernan and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt walked on the Moon, while Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans (astronaut), Ronald Evans orbited above. Schmitt was the only professional geologist to land on the Moon; he was selected in place of Joe Engle, as NASA had been under pressure to send a scientist to the Moon. Yevgeny Perepyolkin
Yevgeny Yakovlevich Perepyolkin (russian: Евге́ний Я́ковлевич Перепёлкин; 4 March 1906 – 13 January 1938)
was a Soviet Union, Soviet astronomer. He headed the astrophysics department of the Pulkovo Observatory until he was arrested on 11 May 1937 for Article 58 (RSFSR Penal Code), counter-revolutionary agitation. He was sent to a penal labour camp in Krasnoyarsk Krai, and was executed on 13 January 1938. He worked at the Pulkovo Observatory when he led the observation of the proper motion of stars with respect to extragalactic nebula. Shirakatsi (crater)
Shirakatsi is an impact crater that is located on the Moon's far side. It is attached to the southern exterior rim of the larger crater Perepelkin, and overlies the northwestern rim of Dobrovol'skiy. This is a relatively fresh crater that has not been significantly eroded by subsequent impacts. The rim edge is well-defined, and there are some terrace structures along parts of the inner wall. The interior floor is uneven, particularly in the north, where it is covered by a complex of ridges. The only level section of floor is along the southern inner wall. The outer rampart of Shirakatsi has formed a mound of debris in the northwestern half of Dobrovol'skiy's interior. Lane (crater)
Lane is a lunar impact crater. It lies on the far side of the Moon, just to the west of the crater Ten Bruggencate. To the west of Lane is Perepelkin, and to the northwest lies Love. This crater is not heavily eroded, but the rim is somewhat disrupted at the northern and southern ends. To the south the rim has a prominent outward bulge that extends an extra 5–10 km. The interior is somewhat uneven, with low central ridges near the midpoint. Danjon (crater)
Danjon is a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies less than a crater diameter to the east-southeast of the larger crater Langemak. To the east-northeast of Danjon is the crater Perepelkin, and due south lies the walled plain Fermi. The northeastern rim of Danjon is overlain by the smaller crater D'Arsonval. Danjon overlies the southeastern corner of the slightly smaller satellite crater Danjon X. The outer rim of this crater is worn and eroded, particularly at the southern end, and the interior floor is irregular and marked by several small craterlets. D'Arsonval (crater)
D'Arsonval is a small lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It is situated across the northeastern rim of the older and larger crater Danjon. To the west of D'Arsonval is Perepelkin. The rim of D'Arsonval is somewhat worn and it has a low, elongated central ridge near the midpoint. The rim forms a saddle depression where it is joined with Danjon to the southwest. There is a cleft in the lunar surface beginning just to the east of the outer rim and running northward.
